ESPN mock draft – Giants add a weapon for Jaxson Dart

No, it’s not yet “Draft Season” for the New York Giants. We’re taking a look at Jordan Reid’s new mock draft for ESPN, but we’re not overlooking the remainder of the Giants’ season by any means.

It’s unlikely that the 2-4 Giants will make the playoffs, but they’re still certainly capable of playing meaningful, and fun, football through the rest of the season. That has a lot to do with the fact that Jaxson Dart has seemingly revitalized the franchise and is 2-1 since being named the starter. It’s possible that the Giants could be a factor in the playoffs right through the end of the season, even if they’re a long-shot to make the postseason.

The rookie quarterback has been very impressive in his first three starts. It’s still too early to say that he’s the Giants’ new franchise quarterback, but the early returns are encouraging. Encouraging enough that it’s worth looking ahead to see how the Giants could build around Dart and keep adding to their young core of players.

That, of course, means the draft. And it is “Draft Season” for teams like the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets, which means that it’s also “Mock Draft Season”.

Which brings us back to Reid’s mock draft, and an opportunity to look at the state of the Giants’ roster.

7. New York Giants (2-4)

Jordyn Tyson, WR, Arizona State*

Jaxson Dart is showing signs of being the Giants’ next franchise QB, so New York should help him by stocking up on playmakers. With Malik Nabers expected to recover fully from a torn right ACL in time for the 2026 season, drafting Tyson would give Dart another security blanket and a potent one-two punch at wide receiver. Tyson has 47 catches for 523 yards and seven touchdowns this season. It was tempting to go with one of the right tackles (Spencer Fano or Francis Mauigoa) here to fill that hole, but ultimately I decided on Tyson.

Raptor’s thoughts

Bottom line up front: Jordyn Tyson is a good pick who could help the Giants immediately. He has traits that should allow him to start right away, and fit well with Nabers in the Giants’ offense. But they should only draft him only if they’re confident in the offensive tackles on the roster and there isn’t a good tackle prospect available.

I don’t object to the pick of Jordyn Tyson in a vacuum.

The Giants absolutely need to build around Dart, and having a 1b receiver to pair with Nabers could take the Giants’ offense to the upper echelons in the NFL. Tyson has solid size at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, and leads the Big-12 in receptions (47) and touchdowns (7) after six games. He also has 523 yards (11.1 yards per reception). He has a reputation as a player with a high football IQ as well as a savvy receiver. He can play every receiver position and win at multiple areas of the field thanks to his route running a solid long speed.

He doesn’t quite have a lock on the top of the receiver class at this point in the process, but he’s definitely one of the favorites to be the first receiver off the board.

That said, I believe that whether or not this is the correct pick depends on a couple factors that are only tangentially related to Tyson.

First and foremost, it depends on the Giants analysis of Jermaine Eluemunor and Marcus Mbow. Eluemunor will be a 31-year-old free agent, and while he’s been a solid starting right tackle, there is still room for improvement. And while there’s no indication of decline in Eluemunor’s game, it isn’t unheard of for linemen to decline suddenly with age.

Likewise, Mbow was an improvement over James Hudson III, largely due to his athleticism and even-keeled temperament. However, Mbow also visibly needs to build his play strength and struggled mightily with George Karlaftis because of that. It’s possible that Mbow’s ceiling may be as a swing tackle if he continues to struggle with power.

A solid, dependable swing tackle and spot starter is still a “hit” for a fifth rounder. However it also shouldn’t be enough to stop you from selecting a player you believe will be a starter in the first round if one is available. Which brings us to the other factor, which is the Giants’ evaluation of the top offensive tackle prospects.

If the Giants believe the top tackle prospect is not only a likely starter but a suitable bookend for Andrew Thomas, they almost need to take him. I selected Spencer Fano and Francis Mauigoa in our first two “Power Mock” posts largely due to their potential as “franchise” tackles. Jaxson Dart’s vision, situational awareness, processing, and twitchy agility have served as an excellent eraser in pass protection, but pairing Thomas with another very good tackle would make the young QB’s life much better.

The Giants also need a long-term solution at right guard, but that could be addressed in the middle rounds of the draft. Likewise, the Giants might be able to find a starting caliber receiver in the second round, depending on how the board falls. This year’s class might not have the same kind of star power we saw from the 2024 receiver class, but it looks to have some very solid depth.
