2 key offensive players not practicing for Giants

The New York Giants head into their week of preparation for a game against the Denver Broncos, who feature an outstanding defense, with a couple of noteworthy injuries to monitor on the offensive side of the ball.

Wide receiver Darius Slayton missed last Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a hamstring injury. Head coach Brian Daboll said before Wednesday’s practice that Slayton “may or may not do something” during practice.

That can’t be taken as an encouraging sign.

Starting center John Michael Schmitz remains in concussion protocol. Whether or not he will clear the protocol in time to play against the Broncos is unknown.

Veteran center Austin Schlottman filled in for Schmitz late in Thursday’s game, and would get the start if Schmitz is not available.

Daboll said only that Schlottman “did what he needed to do” against the Eagles.

Linebackers Demtrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring) and Swayze Bozeman (ankle) are also not practicing on Wednesday.

Cornerback Deonte Banks is not at practice after becoming the father of twins.

Clock started on Dimukeje

The Giants have opened the 21-day practice window for edge defender Victor Dimukeje. Signed in the offseason to provide depth, the 6-foot-2, 262-pound Dimukeje spent the first four years of his career with the Arizona Cardinals. He was a sixth-round pick by the Cardinals in 2021.

Dimukeje suffered a torn pectoral muscle during the offseason. He was on the non-football injury list prior to the beginning of the season, and was then placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) list at the start of the regular season.
