NFL power rankings, Week 7: Giants suddenly ‘a team with potential’

After their surprising victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6, the New York Giants have bounced upward in NFL power rankings for the second time in three weeks.

The Athletic (No. 22 | Up from No. 27)

The average 121st pick in fantasy has become the 11th-highest-scoring running back so far (16.55 ppg). [Cam] Skattebo is 28th in yards before contact per rush (1.06), which could be a sign that he’s not getting much help from the Giants offensive line. Of course, it also could be a sign that he just looks for people to run into.

Can they build on their upset of the Eagles?

ESPN (No. 25 | Up from No. 30)

Lesson learned: Jaxson Dart might actually be the guy.

It has been only three starts, but Dart has shown signs of being a franchise quarterback. That was especially apparent as he led the Giants to upset wins over the Chargers and Eagles. Three quarterbacks have rushed for at least 50 yards in their first three starts — Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts and now Dart. Perhaps more importantly, Dart and rookie running back Cam Skattebo have injected life into the Giants. “Their energy is contagious,” cornerback Cor’Dale Flott said.

CBS Sports (No. 26 | Up from No. 28)

Jaxson Dart has brought life to this team, which it badly needed. The defense also came up big against the Eagles.

FOX Sports (No. 25 | Up from No. 31)

Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in. It’ll probably be a roller coaster, especially with their schedule, but the dynamic rookie duo of QB Jaxson Dart and RB Cam Skattebo sure has breathed life into this franchise.

New York Post (No. 23 | Up from No. 29)

Jaxson Dart directed a touchdown drive on the first possession for the third straight game — something the Giants hadn’t accomplished since 2009 — to set the tone for the win against the Eagles. Cam Skattebo carried 19 times for 98 yards and three touchdowns. Brian Burns (two sacks) and Cor’Dale Flott (interception) keyed a defensive gem.

Bleacher Report (No. 23 | Up from No. 25)

Are the New York Giants playoff contenders? Probably not, but they’re quickly becoming one of the more fun squads to watch in the NFL.

Jaxson Dart isn’t perfect, and if he doesn’t adjust the way he runs, he’s going to miss time. However, he has the arm talent to attack all areas of the field, and his mobility can keep opposing defenses off-balance. He and Cam Skattebo are giving New York an offensive identity, and when the offense is able to sustain drives, a talented defensive front has opportunities to shine.

This is a team with potential, and while potential alone won’t win games, it may be enough to guarantee 2026 employment for Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen. Getting wins, like Thursday’s over the Philadelphia Eagles, will certainly help.

Yahoo! Sports (No. 24 | Up from No. 29)

Great win against the Eagles. But Giants fans have to be a little concerned that Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo won’t last all season with their devil-may-care attitude toward contact. It’s fun in the moment but not a long-term plan. Still, it’s a good time to be a Giants fan.

Sporting News (No. 25 | Up from No. 28)

The Giants are getting exactly what they want from new rookie fan favorites Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo to rev up the offense and inspire the entire team for Brian Daboll. Now let’s see it if can be good enough to save Daboll’s job.

For The Win (No. 22 | Up from No. 26)

The current state of the Giants can be best described by Brian Daboll following Jaxson Dart into the injury tent on Thursday night, followed by Daboll watching Russell Wilson airmail a pass 15 yards wide of his receiver, followed by Daboll screaming for Dart to get back into the game ASAP after the fact. The Giants might have A Guy, and Daboll should probably tone it down … just a tad.
