Potential trade targets for Eagles to boost edge rusher position – NBCSP

Bradley Chubb. Team: Dolphins. Age: 29 | (6-4, 268). Contract status: 2 years left after 2025, no guarantees. The Dolphins are 1-5 with their only win coming over the Jets in late September. So it wouldn’t be a shock to see them start to unload some of their talent. Chubb, 29, missed the entire 2024 season with a torn ACL but has started all 6 games in 2025 and is playing well. He has 4 sacks and 6 QB hits this season. Chubb signed a five-year extension with the Dolphins in 2022 and has two years left on his contract after this season but without any guaranteed money. Chubb played for DC Vic Fangio in both Denver and Miami and was a Pro Bowler under him in 2020.

Why do the Eagles get so little benefit of the doubt? – BGN

The 2025 Eagles are fortunate to be 4-2. They’ve been outgained in each of their first six contests, an unsustainable situation if they plan to continue winning football games, division titles and Super Bowl championships. Thursday’s loss to the Giants was truly awful, unsound and sloppy in every phase of the game, and there’s no doubt the team looks much different right now than it did when they walked off the field in New Orleans back in February. All that is undeniable. But for a team as successful as the Eagles have been over the last five seasons, and for a head coach who has had more success than virtually every head coach in NFL history, the lack of benefit of the doubt this franchise receives from its fanbase and some prominent voices in the national media is astounding.

NFC Hierarchy/Obituary: Week 7 edition – PhillyVoice

6) Eagles (4-2): As you all saw, the Eagles got wrecked by a bad team in front of a national audience on Thursday night, and have been getting crushed for it since, both locally and nationally. And deservedly so! However, Sunday’s slate of game really couldn’t have gone much better for the Eagles, with the Cowboys losing to the Panthers, the Commanders losing at home to the Bears, and the Lions losing to the Chiefs. The Eagles look like crap, but the silver lining is that there isn’t a team in the NFC — or the entire NFL, really — that looks like some kind of juggernaut. Of course, they can’t really hang their hat on anything other than, “Well everyone else is bad too.”

Finding Solutions – Iggles Blitz

That said, part of finding solutions is identifying problems. And that does involve pointing fingers to a certain extent. You might need to point out to Kevin Patullo that he’s got to mix up formations better than he currently is. You might need to let the edge rushers know that sacks are a good thing. The OL could use a suggestion on actually playing well for a whole game. Heck, even three quarters would be a step in the right direction. Playing on Thursday night means the coaches have had a few extra days to study tape and analyze data in their search for solutions. Let’s hope they found some. Sirianni wouldn’t go into details, as you would expect. Why would you announce to the world the solutions you figured out? Save them for the upcoming games. Some of the problems seem pretty obvious so it would be highly disappointing if Sirianni and his staff were not able to find solutions. We’ll find out on Sunday when the Eagles go to play the Vikings.

Eagles’ pass-rush depth takes hit as Za’Darius Smith retires – ESPN

Smith was in line to hit some lucrative incentives. According to a copy of the contract obtained by ESPN, he’d receive an additional $250,000 for five sacks, $500,000 if he reached seven sacks and $1 million for nine, with escalators going all the way up to $2.5 million if he reached 15 sacks or more. “I’m cool with what I got and what I’m going to earn as far as incentives,” Smith said in early September. “I’m happy where I’m at, man, and where I am at in life; it’s really not all about the money. I’ve made a lot of money, had four-five contracts. Just ready to play some football, that’s it.”

2025 NFL trade needs tracker: Every team’s top priority ahead of Nov. 4 deadline – NFL.com

The corner group sorely needs help, but Za’Darius Smith’s abrupt retirement highlights the Eagles’ issues at edge rusher. Though he was with the team for just five games, Smith led all Eagles edge rushers this season with 1.5 sacks. That won’t do for a defense that wants to live without relying on the blitz. Given the state of the defense, Howie Roseman is almost assuredly going to make a move. Adding a pass rusher and a corner would make sense for the defending Super Bowl champs.

Spadaro: How did the Eagles attack the mini-bye weekend? – PE.com

A mini-bye weekend well spent for Head Coach Nick Sirianni and the coaching staff was about “looking for solutions and not assigning blame” as the Eagles prepare for a road game on Sunday at the 3-2 Minnesota Vikings. One of the solutions to find is an edge situation for the defense with the news on Monday of Za’Darius Smith’s decision to retire after joining the team for his 11th NFL season on September 5, one day after the regular season opened against Dallas. “I wish him the best. I really enjoyed having him on this football team while he was on this football team,” Sirianni said in his virtual press conference with reporters. “As far as my confidence in the guys there on the defensive line, a lot of confidence in them. I like that position. I like the depth we have at that position. The numbers at how they play now will be distributed a little differently.”

SB Nation Reacts Results: Vikings Fans Slowly Regaining Confidence – Daily Norseman

After dropping down into the low 40% range last week, we’re back to a majority of folks thinking this team is going in the right direction, as 62% of our respondents answered that question in the affirmative. I mean, this team is 3-2, so surely things can’t be all bad, right?

Commanders to sign DE Drake Jackson – PFT

The Commanders are adding some help on the defensive line in the wake of Monday night’s loss to the Bears. Agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN that his client Drake Jackson will sign with the team. Jackson recently visited with the Commanders and a couple of other teams as he looks to resume his career after a major knee injury. [BLG Note: The Eagles worked out Jackson last week.]

Commanders Vs. Bears – Studs and Duds – Hogs Haven

Duds: Jayden Daniels: There are two stories to this “Dud” listing. First, without the play of Jayden Daniels, including the beautiful pass in the endzone to Chris Moore, the Commanders wouldn’t have even been in this game. However, the costly redzone interception in the first quarter, and two fumbles (one lost), one in a critical situation late in the fourth quarter with the game on the line, sealed Washington’s fate. He also had an intentional grounding penalty. You may disagree with Jayden being a Dud, but given the late mishandled snap, I see no other way to view it as that play cost Washington the game.

Cowboys at Panthers Historical Notes: This defense is officially worse than 2020 – Blogging The Boys

Sunday was incredibly frustrating for the Dallas Cowboys. Losing in general stinks, but losing when you are favored to win is particularly hard to swallow. Dallas was favored to beat Carolina and it was the second time this season that they have lost as a road favorite (the Bears loss in Week 3). Like that day in Chicago, this particular Sunday featured an incredibly poor performance from the defensive side of the ball. The Cowboys are setting some history this season in this way, but we are always curious exactly what that history looks like.

How did the Giants contain the Eagles’ offense? – Big Blue View

I doubt anyone was surprised that the outcome of the Thursday night game between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles would be 34-17. Likewise, if I predicted before the game that it would involve the winning team’s defense shutting out the opposing offense and winning off of timely takeaways in the fourth quarter, I think most people would be nodding along. But while the general shape of the game went entirely according to expectations, nobody expected that it was the Giants who doubled their opponent’s score with 5 touchdowns, 3 of which came on the ground. Likewise, nobody would have expected that it would be the Giants to shut out the Eagles in the second half. So how did they do it?

Mike McDaniel has become a parody of himself – SB Nation

It just keeps getting worse when it comes to Mike McDaniel and the Miami Dolphins. Every bit of the coach’s quaintness and charm has evaporated along with his team’s hopes, leaving us with a pile of bland, flavorless goo. Never was this more apparent than Monday, when McDaniel struggled to eat his own word salad while trying to explain Tua Tagovailoa’s post-game comments.
