Howie Roseman needs to sit out the trade deadline

The 2025 Eagles season is in danger of skidding off the tracks. What do people do when things are going wrong? They double down on what got them success.

For Howie Roseman, if the Eagles slide continues it could mean making a trade. He absolutely should not do this. In-season trades are a waste of time. Just look at last year:

CB Marshon Lattimore and a 5th to WAS from NO for a 3rd, 4th, and 6th.

Was inactive for six games and was generally terrible in the five regular season and playoff games he appeared in.

CB Tre’Davious White to BAL from LAR for a swap of 7ths.

In 9 regular season and playoff games with the Ravens played 50+% of snaps just twice. Signed with the Bills in April.

DT Khalil Davis to SF from HOU for a 7th.

Played 37 snaps over three games for the 49ers. Retired after the season then unretired to play in the UFL.

DT Roy Robertson-Harris to SEA from JAX for a 6th.

In 11 games with the Seahawks played a single game high of 38% of snaps. Released in March and signed with the Giants.

LB Preston Smith to PIT from GB for a 7th.

Never played more than 40% of snaps for the Steelers and was released in February. Signed with the Commanders in September.

LB Preston Smith to PIT from GB for a 7th.

Never played more than 40% of snaps for the Steelers and was released in February. Signed with the Commanders in September.

LB Za’Darius Smith and a 7th to DET from CLE for a 5th and 6th.

4 sacks in 9 regular season and playoff games for the Lions. Was released in March and signed with the Eagles in September and then retired today.

LB Josh Uche to KC from NE for a 6th.

0 sacks or TFL in 6 games. Signed by the Eagles in March.

LB Baron Browning to ARI from DEN for a 6th.

Played half of snaps in 8 games with the Cardinals in 2024. Re-signed with Arizona in the offseason and has started every game.

LB Ernest Jones to SEA from TEN for LB Jerome Baker for a 4th.

Jones started every game with the Seahawks and re-signed in the offseason. Baker started three games for the Titans and signed with the Browns in March.

OT Cam Robinson and a 7th to MIN from JAX for a 5th.

Started every game for the Vikings. Signed with the Texans in March and was traded to the Browns in September.

RB Cam Akers and a 7th to MIN from HOU for a 6th.

79 touches in 13 regular season and playoff games for the Vikings. Signed with the Saints in June and was released in August, returned to the Vikings in September.

RB Khalil Herbert to CIN from CHI for a 7th.

36 touches in 8 games for the Bengals in 2024, has been on three teams so far in 2025.

WR Davante Adams to NYJ from LV for a 3rd.

67 catches and 7 TDs in 11 games with the Jets. Released in March and signed with the Rams.

WR Amari Cooper and a 6th to BUF from CLE for a 3rd and a 7th.

26 catches in 11 regular season and playoff games with the Bills. Signed with the Raiders in August but retired a week later.

WR DeAndre Hopkins to KC from TEN for a 5th.

44 catches for 5 TD in 13 regular season games for the Chiefs. Signed with the Ravens in March.

WR Diontae Johnson and a 6th to BAL from CAR for a 5th.

Oh boy. Suspended then cut by the Ravens after refusing to take the field against the Eagles. Picked up off waivers by the Texans, who later cut him, the Ravens brought him back. Signed with the Browns in April but was cut in August.

WR Jonathan Mingo and a 7th to DAL from CAR for a 4th.

5 catches in 8 games in 2024, has been on IR in 2025.

WR Mike Williams to PIT from NYJ for a 5th.

10 receptions in 10 regular season and playoff games for the Steelers. Signed with the Chargers in March and retired in July.

Davante Adams was productive but a 3rd for 11 games isn’t a good return on investment. Baron Browning and Ernest Jones were re-signed, so those teams were happy with the trade.

For the rest though, it is hard to say that any of them were worth it. 14 of the 18 players were not brought back by the teams that traded for them. The draft capital exchanged for the players who are no longer on the team is impressive:

Outgoing: two 3rds, a 4th, five 5th, four 6ths, and five 7ths.

Incoming: two 6ths, five 7ths

And with the exception of Davante Adams, who was productive last season, none of them are doing anything of note this season that should cause any remorse.

So don’t make any more in-season trades Howie Roseman. That Tank Bigsby trade is already worthless.
