Four wins in a row; these Detroit Lions are cooking with some steam at the moment. Last week was a closer game than many expected, but the Lions defeated the Cincinnati Bengals to improve to 4-1. This week, the challenge gets tougher, taking on the Kansas City Chiefs as the Lions are banged up in the secondary. The Chiefs haven’t looked like themselves, but with Detroit limping into this matchup a bit, it could be a bounce-back game for Kansas City. With quarterback Patrick Mahomes doing all he can on the ground and through the air, the Chiefs are in must-win mode as falling to 2-4 can start to be something they might not recover from.
“Real good opponent here,” said Lions head coach Dan Campbell. “Got a lot of respect for what coach (Andy) Reid’s done, (Steve) Spagnuolo, man, outstanding defensive coordinator, they’ve been intact, that staff, these players have been intact for a long time. They got a really good system, they’re good at it, they’ve evolved to the point now where they’ve seen everything, kinda do everything, very good at it, very disciplined. […] This is a big-time opponent; these guys know how to win. We’re looking forward to this. This is another one of those ‘this is why you do it, why you’re in it’ and we love this stuff.”
