Tua Tagovailoa has had an extensive list of injuries during his football career — both while playing in college at Alabama and as a member of the Miami Dolphins.
Late last season, Miami’s signal-caller missed the club’s final two contests while dealing with a hip injury that was described as “not related” to the major hip injury Tagovailoa suffered during his final season at Alabama. The Dolphins would drop their Week 18 game to the New York Jets — causing them to end the 2024 season with a losing record while missing out on the playoffs for the first time during head coach Mike McDaniel’s tenure with the franchise.
Unfortunately for the Dolphins and Tagovailoa, Miami’s quarterback is once again dealing with a hip ailment — in addition to a thumb injury on his throwing hand — that caused the passer to be limited at practice on Wednesday. It is encouraging that the injuries didn’t keep Tagovailoa from practicing altogether, yet any time the 27-year-old ends up on the injury report, that information becomes a hot-button topic of coversation amongst the team’s fanbase.
As a quarterback who is already limited in regards to arm strength, playing through a hip injury could cause further concern in that area — potentially limiting Tagovailoa’s ability to zip balls into tight windows, or to hit his receivers with deep touchdown passes like he did Jaylen Waddle late in the fourth quarter last Sunday against the Panthers, temporarily giving the Dolphins the lead in that game.
Knowing how important the quarterback is to his team’s chances of getting back in the win column, we will continue to keep an eye on Miami’s practice reports throughout the week and update our readers with all news regarding Tagovailoa’s latest injury issues as the team gears up for an important clash against Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers this weekend.
