It appears the Las Vegas Raiders will have, at least, one of their two top tight ends back Sunday when they host the Tennessee Titans.
Raiders coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that Michael Mayer has bene cleared to practice fully out of the concussion protocol, thus, barring a setback, he is on track to play Sunday.
The second-round pick from Notre Dame missed his second straight game at the Colts on Sunday because of a concussion he suffered early in a Week 3 loss at Washington. He was limited in practice all week leading up to the Colts’ game, but was ruled out a day before the game.
Mayer has six catches for 47 yards this season. The Raider splayed the Colts’ game also without starting tight end Brock Bowers. Wednesday, Carroll said Bowers is “day-to-day.” Bowers did not practice Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Carroll said Monday that Bowers is “week-to-week.“ Sunday, Carroll said Bowers was ‘day-to-day” with the knee injury that kept him out of the game. He was injured in Week 1, but played through the injury for the next three weeks. Time will tell if Bowers will play Sunday.
The plan is for star punter A.J. Cole to try to punt in practice Friday. He suffered a low-ankle sprain in Sunday’s 40-6 loss at the Indianapolis Colts when he was injured on a blocked punt. If Cole can’t play, the team will elevate newly signed Brad Robbins from the practice squad to punt Sunday.
Starting cornerback Eric Stokes was limited with a knee injury that he suffered against Chicago and which kept him out of the Colts’ game.
