The Miami Dolphins announced a series of roster moves on Wednesday, all targeting the defensive secondary as another cornerback landed on injured reserve. Cornell Armstrong, who had been working as the team’s nickel cornerback, is dealing with a hamstring injury sustained during Miami’s Week 5 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Armstrong joins cornerbacks Artie Burns, Kader Kohou, Jason Maitre, and Jason Marshall, Jr., on injured reserve for the Dolphins this year.
To fill Armstrong’s roster spot, the Dolphins signed safety Jordan Colbert to the active roster off the team’s practice squad. Miami signed Colbert as an undrafted free agent out of Rhode Island in 2024 before he spent all of last year on the practice squad.
Miami then filled the practice squad vacancy by signing cornerback Kendall Sheffield. A 2019 fourth-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons, Sheffield has had stints with the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans, and New York Jets. He spent the 2025 preseason with Miami before being released in the final roster cuts.
The Dolphins host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday as part of the NFL’s Week 6 schedule.
