The Miami Dolphins jumped out to a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter against the Carolina Panthers in Week 5, seeming in position to cruise to a victory. It would have been their second-straight win, potentially sparking a return to competitive football and a chance to fight for an unlikely playoff position. Instead, the team completely collapsed on their way to their fourth loss in five games played this season.
Now, they have to pick up the pieces and prepare to face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6. The good news for Miami is the Chargers having to make the west-to-east cross-country trek to play in a 1 p.m. Eastern game. That usually leads to early-game struggles for the visiting team. The bad news is, well, just about everything else. Miami is a mess right now, injuries are only compounding the problems, and they simply are not putting together 60 minutes of good football.
And the oddsmakers know it. Despite the Chargers being on the road and the 1 p.m. Eastern kickoff, the oddsmakers at FanDuel Sportsbook, have Los Angeles favored by 4.5 points. The Chargers are -240 to straight-up beat Miami, while the Dolphins are +198 to come away with the victory. The point total for the game is 43.5.
Miami’s season is hanging on by a thread at this point, and even a win on Sunday may not be enough to turn that thread into a rescue rope, but they cannot afford another loss – especially if they keep looking as out of sync as they have been to start this season. Will they be able to pull off the upset at home?
