It took a couple of weeks, but C.J. Gardner-Johnson is finally landing with another team after being released by the Houston Texans after just three games, and is expected to sign with the Baltimore Ravens practice squad.
There was a lot of chatter among Eagles fans as to whether or not the team would even be able to bring back CJGJ for a third time, but now it’s a moot point.
In the offseason, CJGJ did an interview with The Pivot Podcast and revealed a lot about how he’s been trying to learn a better balance between his on-field competitiveness and how that transfers into the locker room. There were rumors that was a factor in him being traded by the Eagles, and then again for why the Texans cut ties so early in the season. He’ll have to continue to navigate that balance as he joins his third team in a year, and has to work his way from the practice squad onto the active roster. This isn’t an opportunity for him to have a starting role right away, and will look different than it has for him in the past.
CJGJ will always have a Super Bowl victory to hang his hat on, but if he doesn’t want to hang up his cleats with plenty of quality football still in the tank, he’ll need to find a way to better navigate his new team’s culture.
