Taking away a coach’s livelihood and firing him in the middle of a season is nothing that should be taken lightly, but the nature of the NFL is that it happens over and over again because this is a production business. It’s only been 10 days since we wrote about the awful season being had by Rams special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn and those woes got worse on Thursday.
Should Sean McVay fire Blackburn and send a message or forgive and forget because it’s only been five weeks?
McVay once fired John Fassel, one of the best special teams coordinators in the last 25 years. He fired Fassel’s replacement after one season. How is Blackburn any safer than his predecessors, especially given that L.A.‘s special teams hasn’t been this bad since…Has the Rams special teams EVER been this bad?
Josh Karty is 9-of-12 on field goals with two blocked kicks. He’s missed two extra points with another block.
Ethan Evans is one of the worst punters in the NFL this season and his coverage is failing him too.
There’s absolutely nothing special about the Rams return units.
Karty’s fancy knuckleball kickoffs backfired in overtime, landing short of the landing zone and giving Mac Jones the ball at the 40 to start the extra period.
This is the worst special teams that McVay has ever had and it has basically cost the Rams two of the last three games; they only barely escaped Week 4 with a win in spite of special teams.
Should McVay fire Blackburn and replace him immediately?
