How Jaxson Dart commands trust and respect from NY Giants as their rookie quarterback | The Record
This is how New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is wired. His obsession with football goes deeper than what transpires between the lines on game day.
“The more I study the film, the more in command of the offense I can be,” Dart said at his locker last week. “The more in command of the offense I am, the more my teammates and coaches will hear and respect what I say. Because that’s what it’s all about.”

Which rookie has made a case for more playing time after a strong start?
Fowler: He’s already getting more time, but Giants running back Cam Skattebo is proving a capable option out of the backfield with Tyrone Tracy Jr. sidelined by injury. Skattebo’s recent impact has been undeniable. His ability to knife through tackles and create additional yards will be crucial for a streaky (that’s putting it nicely) New York passing offense. He averaged nearly six yards per touch thus far.
When I asked about the Giants making a move to add a receiver via trade or free agency, the response I got was, “There are no replacements for Malik Nabers. You can’t replace that guy.” Very true. So the Giants seem inclined to roll with what they have at this point.
24. Jaxson Dart. New York Giants QB. One start in, Dart is already a winner in the eyes of Giants fans, both literally and figuratively. He wasn’t flawless against the Chargers, but his legs were a real X factor, opening up New York’s offense even as Malik Nabers left due to injury. (+3)
Which 2025 NFL Draft picks have excelled so far? Our early All-Rookie Team | The Athletic
Edge defender Abdul Carter, New York Giants (Round 1, No. 3). It’s no surprise that Carter, the first defensive player selected in the 2025 draft, lands in this top spot. It hasn’t looked perfect — he’s had too many missed tackles and penalties as the Giants have tweaked his alignment and role. But Carter leads all rookies in pressures (19) and ranks top 10 in the NFL, just behind Browns star Myles Garrett (22) and Giants teammate Brian Burns (20).
After seeing most of his snaps as an off-ball linebacker in Week 3, Carter moved back to edge defender against the Chargers on Sunday and responded with a career-best eight pressures as he terrorized Justin Herbert all game (five quarterback hits and four hurries). Dart wasn’t the only Giants rookie to have a substantial impact in the upset victory.

Abdul Carter leads Giants’ pass rush ‘hunt’ in dominant performance vs. Chargers | New York Daily News
Carter pressured Herbert on 25% of his pass rushes, and seven of his eight pressures were labeled “quick” quarterback pressures by NFL NextGen Stats. Carter’s 11 “quick” QB pressures on the season put him in a four-way tie for No. 2 in the entire NFL behind only the Denver Broncos’ Nick Bonitto (15), tied with Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett, Jacksonville Jaguars edge Josh Hines-Allen and Houston Texans edge Will Anderson Jr. with 11 apiece. The Giants’ rookie only has a half-sack so far, back in Week 1 on Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels. But he would have had his first full sack on Sunday if Herbert hadn’t committed intentional grounding to avoid it.

3. New York Giants edge Abdul Carter: A-. Carter’s been on the field for 71 percent of the Giants’ defensive snaps but has yet to register a full sack and hasn’t been in on a sack since Week 1. But they’ll come, and he’s got a lot of momentum following a tremendous performance against the Chargers in which he registered five quarterback hits. Watch for the Giants to set him loose on the edge a lot more as the season wears on.
25. New York Giants QB Jaxson Dart: A. By no means was he legendary as a passer in his debut in place of Russell Wilson in Week 4, but Dart made some tremendous plays with his legs and wasn’t useless with his arm in an impressive upset victory over the previously undefeated Chargers.
Best Rookie Pass Rusher: Abdul Carter, New York Giants. Carter dominated the Chargers’ offensive line in Week 4, generating a league-leading five quarterback hits and ranking in the top five in total pressures (eight) and PFF pass-rush grade (92.1).
Carter is in a tier of his own when it comes to rookie pass-rushing production through the first month of the season. The No. 3 overall pick in this year’s draft leads all rookies with at least 50 pass-rushing snaps in PFF pass-rush grade (84.6), total pressures (19) and win rate (14.9%).
Jaylin Hyatt on encouragement from Malik Nabers
On receivers like Jalin Hyatt and Beaux Collins having a larger opportunity with Malik Nabers out for the rest of the season: “Those guys have been working hard. They’re out here for a reason. I expect them to know what to do and go out there and do it at the highest level they can do it.”
This week’s opponent
27. Spencer Rattler, New Orleans Saints. The Saints keep losing, and Rattler is kind of just along for the ride. He’s not necessarily transcending the mess, but he’s also not entirely deflated by it, which is a credit to his persistence. Rookie Tyler Shough may still get a chance soon. (+2)
Game Preview: Giants vs. Saints | 2025 NFL Week 5 | NewOrleansSaints.com
The New Orleans Saints and New York Giants have met 33 times, with New York holding a 17-16 advantage. The Saints have posted a 11-4 record in home contests played both at Tulane Stadium and the Caesars Superdome. New Orleans has defeated New York the last two meetings, including a 14-11 victory at MetLife Stadium on December 8, 2024 on the strength of defensive tackle Brian Bresee’s blocked field goal.
The Dolphins are set to bring back a former member of the team in the wake of Tyreek Hill’s season-ending knee injury. According to multiple reports, they are expected to sign wide receiver Cedrick Wilson off of the Saints’ practice squad.
Wilson was a member of the Dolphins in 2022 and 2023. He caught 34 passes for 432 yards and three touchdowns in 30 games for Miami, and he had 20 catches for 211 yards and a touchdown for the Saints during the 2024 season.
