McVay on AD Mitchell errors: ‘Football Gods are smiling down’

The Rams did everything necessary in the end to beat the Colts 27-20, but it wasn’t without help of 2 huge mistakes by Indianapolis receiver AD Mitchell, who was filling in for an injured Alec Pierce. Said head coach Sean McVay after the win, “Sometimes the football Gods are smiling down on you”.

The football Gods must have forgotten about the Rams during Week 3’s loss to the Eagles, as McVay alluded to himself, but they came back to L.A. with the team on Sunday.

During McVay’s post-game press conference after the Los Angeles Rams topped the Indianapolis Colts, he was asked about Colt’s second-year receiver Adonai Mitchell, and how Mitchell’s blunders impacted the Rams and their ability to win the game.

“Sometimes, you know, sometimes the football Gods are smiling down on you if some things…maybe haven’t gone your way in the previous week…we’ll take it that was a…don’t ask me about that…don’t put a…don’t put a cloud over an otherwise Sunny day right there.”

If you missed it, Mitchell basically cost the Colts two touchdowns in a game they lost by 7.

The first mistake was when Mitchell made an amazing catch that would’ve led to a long touchdown, and a big lead by the Colts, but instead, Mitchell fumbled the ball out of the end zone right as he was about to cross the goal line.

The young man could be seen on the sidelines beside himself after the brutal error.

The second slip-up came when Jonathan Taylor seemingly made one of the best NFL runs of the day, but it was called back after Mitchell was called for a holding penalty.

The young receiver had a rough day, and McVay’s been around long enough to know it can happen to anyone, so why comment on it beyond saying exactly what he said?

“…don’t put a cloud over an otherwise Sunny day…”

For the Rams, they had a Sunny day, for Mitchell and the Colts, not so much.
