Giants players react to Jaxson Dart replacing Russell Wilson: ‘He’s my quarterback now’

How did New York Giants players react to the switch at quarterback from Russell Wilson to Jaxson Dart? Here is a sampling of some of the comments from the locker room on Wednesday afternoon.

Malik Nabers: “They thought that was the best decision”

“The decision is not up to me, it’s up to (head coach Brian Daboll) Dabs. They thought that was the best decision for the team and I’m just following on.

“Process is, I’ve got a job to do. My job is to run routes, catch the ball no matter who’s throwing me the football. Like I said, the decision wasn’t up to me. Like I said, I’ve still got a job to do, go play football.”

Dexter Lawrence: “That’s just how it goes”

“I mean, eventually it was probably going to happen like this. That’s just how it goes. It happened now, so I’m ready to support him and be by his side and encourage him and keep him going.”

Lawrence wouldn’t bite when asked if it was the right decision.

“That’s not my call, honestly. He’s my quarterback now. So, I’m going to be by his side and roll with him to the end.”

Darius Slayton: “We’re going to rally behind him”

“Playing with Jaxson Dart now. We’re going to rally behind him and get on the same page, figure out what he likes, how to best make him feel comfortable and make it stand up.

“It definitely can be a positive thing for us.”

Chris Manhertz: “There’s always going to be changes”

“It’s a pivot that each and every one of us has to be prepared to take on, but at the end of the day this is the NFL. There’s always going to be changes, and we as players have to adjust to that regardless of who’s there.”

Jermaine Eluemunor: “It’s not a new feeling”

The veteran right tackle has been through this before, both with the Giants last year and Las Vegas Raiders earlier in his career.

“I’m kinda used to it by now. It’s not a new feeling to me.”

Eluemunor said it doesn’t change his job.

“It doesn’t change a single thing. For me it’s just about going out as a team and doing what I’m doing. We’ve each gotta keep doing what we’ve been doing, which is practice hard, going out there and trying to protect the quarterback as much as we can, keeping him clean. It doesn’t change this week.

“It’s just about making sure he’s (Dart) comfortable, making sure he doesn’t get hit early, and showing him that we have his back.”

Wan’Dale Robinson: “All the confidence in the world in Jaxson Dart”

“We’ve got all the confidence in the world in Jaxson Dart to put up points. We’re going out there still trying to do the same things and at the end of the day go out there and win and execute and put up points on Sunday.”

Robinson, who had the best game of his career with Wilson at quarterback in Week 2, said his job doesn’t change.

“Get open and catch the ball. Get open on third down.”

Robinson did agree that “everybody has a role” in the team being 0-3.

“No question about it. In every game there could be a throw, there could be a catch, there could be a route, there could be a block. All 11 have to be working together and if we’re not working together the offense isn’t going to work.”
