Roster moves: Giants sign K Younghoe Koo to their practice squad

The New York Giants are signing K Younghoe Koo to their practice squad, per a report from Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

Koo, 31, has appeared in 91 games since entering the NFL in 2017, all but 4 of those games for the Atlanta Falcons. He’s completed 85 percent of his field goals over the course of his career, with a long of 58 yards. However, he was also released by the Falcons last week after being inactive in Week 2. He missed a 44-yard field goal that would have tied the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneeers in Week 1.

The Giants are likely hoping that a change of scenery will help Koo turn the clock back and put a dismal (73 .5 percent success rate) 2024 season behind him. He was one of the best kickers in the NFL earlier in his career and made the Pro Bowl in 2020 after converting 37 of 39 field goal attempts.

It isn’t a surprise at all to see the Giants sign a veteran kicker following the last-minute injury to Graham Gano on Sunday. Gano, 38, injured his groin while warming up before the Giants took the field to face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.

That forced punter Jamie Gillan to handle the majority of the placekicking duties as well as punt. That, unsurprisingly, didn’t work out well, as the left-footed Gillan was wildly out of sync with the rest of the placekicking operation.

It’s certainly been a busy day in East Rutherford, as the Giants also named rookie QB Jaxson Dart their starter in place of Russell Wilson.
