We’re through the first quarter at U.S. Bank Stadium, with your Minnesota Vikings leading the Cincinnati Bengals by a score of 14-0.
The Vikings got the football first after the Bengals won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half. Carson Wentz led the Vikings’ offense onto the field for his first start in purple, and Jordan Mason got things started with a 10-yard run, with a penalty on the Bengals putting the ball into Cincinnati territory. A 15-yard penalty on the Bengals for a low block moved the Vikings into field goal range, and Wentz then found Justin Jefferson on a nice pass to put the Vikings into the red zone.
Then, on a 3rd-and-5, Wentz found Josh Oliver for a 12-yard touchdown pass to put the Vikings up 7-0 just over two minutes into the game!
The Vikings’ defense then forced a quick three-and-out and got the ball right back to the offense. Unfortunately, the Vikings’ offense went three-and-out themselves with Wentz taking a sack on third down to give the ball back to Cincinnati.
The Bengals pushed down to the Minnesota 30-yard line, but then Jake Browning threw a pass that was tipped by Harrison Smith and wound up in the hands of Isaiah Rodgers. He handled the rest from there, taking it back for an 87-yard pick six to make it 14-0 in favor of the good guys with six minutes left in the first quarter.
Minnesota’s defense got the job done again, forcing another three-and-out thanks to a sack by the returning Andrew Van Ginkel. After a solid return from Myles Price, the Vikings started at their own 43, giving the offense a short field.
The Vikings couldn’t do much with the ball on the ensuing possession, as they went three-and-out, but Ryan Wright’s punt pinned the Bengals down at their own 6-yard line. As we move to the second quarter of play, the Bengals now have a 2nd-and-7 from their own 20-yard line.
We’ve made it through the first quarter at U.S. Bank Stadium, and your Minnesota Vikings hold a 14-0 lead over the Cincinnati Bengals. Come on in and join us for the second quarter of play!
