At PFF, the run game matters just as much as the pass game, and every play is meticulously graded. Each week, we’ll be looking at the highest-graded run blockers and run defenders from each position.
OFFENSE
Tackle: Jordan Mailata, Philadelphia Eagles – 90.8
Jordan Mailata just continues to dominate in the run game. After finishing the 2024 season as the highest-graded run blocker, Mailata continued his dominance with a 90.8 PFF run-blocking grade in Week 2. That is somehow lower than his 93.5 grade in Week 1. Mailata is a force in the running game and an extremely important part of that Eagles rushing attack.
HM: Darnell Wright, Chicago Bears – 90.7
Guard: Ed Ingram, HoustonTexans – 83.6
Ed Ingram finished the week as the NFL’s highest-graded guard in the run game with an 83.6 PFF run-blocking grade. While the Texans didn’t run the ball a lot, when they did, Ingram was doing his job and then some. That grade was the third-highest of Ingram’s career.
HM: Ezra Cleveland, Jacksonville Jaguars – 77.4
Center: Ryan Neuzil, Atlanta Falcons – 85.9
Ryan Neuzil was dominating on Sunday night in the Falcons’ outside zone scheme, consistently opening lanes for Atlanta’s running backs. Neuzil’s 85.9 PFF run-blocking grade is the highest of his career and the second-highest of any center in this young season.
DEFENSE
Linebacker: Demario Davis, New Orleans Saints – 88.8
Demario Davis just continues to play the linebacker position at a high level. He’s recorded eight straight seasons of a 73.0-plus overall PFF grade, and he’s off to a great start this season. David had the highest run-defense grade among all linebackers in both Week 1 and 2. Against the 49ers, he tallied two run stops with a 3.5-yard average depth of tackle.
Nolan Smith finished the week as the highest-graded run defender among all defensive players. His 90.1 PFF run-defense grade is the second-highest of his career. He concluded the game with two run stops, zero missed tackles and added a forced fumble to top it all off.
HM: Kayvon Thibodeaux, New York Giants – 81.7
Matthew Butler played limited snaps on Sunday, but that didn’t stop him from dominating in the run game when he was on the field. His 89.7 PFF run-defense grade was the highest of his career. He also had the league’s best run stop percentage at 28.6%.
