The Las Vegas Raiders have nine draft picks on their 53-man roster. Let’s look at how they fared in a Week 2 20-9 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers and looking ahead to what to expect in Week 3 at the Washington Commanders.
Ashton Jeanty:
It’s been a quiet start for the No. 6 overall draft pick. He had 43 yards on 11 carries. He isn’t getting much blocking, but Jeanty has admitted he still needs to work on the adjusting to the speed of the game. He’s had his moments, but Jeanty does need to get going and he also has to work on his pass protection. It will come together for Jeanty sooner or later. Maybe this is the week.
Jack Bech:
The second-round pick played just five snaps on offense and nine on special teams. He had no targets. It’s been somewhat of a slower start for the TCU product, who had one catch on nine total offensive snaps so far. There was speculation early in camp that he could start. That hasn’t developed yet.
Darien Porter:
The cornerback, taken in the third round, did not play any defensive snaps for the second straight game. His special-teams count when down from 20 in Week 1 to 13 in Week 2. Porter began training camp as a starter.
Caleb Rogers:
The offensive lineman, taken in the third round, was active with guard Jackson Powers-Johnson out with a concussion, but he didn’t play on offense.
Charles Grant:
The offensive lineman, taken in the third round, was a healthy scratch for the second straight game. That may be the case for a while.
Dont’e Thornton:
The wide receiver, taken in the fourth round, is earning more and ore trust. He played 81 percent of the offensive snaps in Week 2 after playing 57 percent in Week 1. he was targeted four times each week. Thornton had one catch for 20 yards against the Chargers. The Raiders believe in him and will continue to let him grow as the season progresses..
Tonka Hemingway:
The fourth-round pick was inactive against the Chargers. He played 11 snaps on defense and nine snaps on special teams at New England. Initially, his availability may be predicated on the practice week.
JJ Pegues:
The defensive tackle, taken in the sixth round, was a healthy scratch for the second straight game.
Cody Lindenberg:
The seventh-round pick played no snaps on defense, but 18 snaps on special teams, down from 24 in Week 1. He did have an assisted tackle. This will likely be his role as a rookie.
