During Sunday’s overtime thriller in Dallas, Wilson completed 30 of 41 pass attempts (73.2 percent) for 450 yards, three touchdowns, one interception and a quarterback rating of 123.0. The 450 passing yards are the second-most in his illustrious career and tied with Eli Manning for the fourth-highest total in franchise history.

“You’ve got to be tough asses,” said Kayvon Thibodeaux, who had one of the Giants’ two sacks. “You’ve got to be strong. I believe in our leaders and I believe in our support players.”

Abdul Carter, New York’s prized rookie edge-rusher, hasn’t made the impact expected when Big Blue took him No. 3 overall in the 2025 draft. Through his first two career games, Carter has recorded a meager four tackles, two QB hits and a half-sack. While Carter only saw the field for 38 defensive snaps (54 percent) in Week 1, he didn’t quite move the needle despite being out there for 67 defensive snaps (75 percent) against the Cowboys. He recorded just one tackle and one QB hit on those plays.

The Penn State product must improve if the Giants are going to have any chance of turning things around after a winless start. Unfortunately it won’t get any easier for Carter and co. with a desperate Chiefs squad heading to MetLife Stadium seeking their first win of the season in the impending Week 3 clash.

Through two weeks, by EPA per play, the Giants are the fourth-best offense in the NFL outside the red zone but the worst by a considerable margin inside the 20-yard line. I would say that has to regress toward the mean, but I was also saying that before the season — and well, it hasn’t yet.

Skattebo rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown via 11 carries. He saw the majority of carries allocated to the team’s running backs, with Tyrone Tracy Jr. only earning five opportunities and Devin Singletary having one carry. Skattebo averaged a team-high 4.1 yards per carry and added two receptions for 14 yards. Skattebo played 35 offensive snaps to Tracy’s 28, and both contributed on special teams.

It’s just really unfortunate that we couldn’t get that one for him,” Dart declared after the game. “Russ is a future Hall of Famer, so I never really understood the kind of criticism that was kind of thrown around there, kind of about him. I get to see it on a daily basis, how good he is. The clutch situations and him putting the ball in positions where only our guys can catch it, that two-minute drive at the very end was crazy. So he’s still an elite player.”

What does this mean now for the Giants’ quarterback position? This should quiet the talk of replacing Russell Wilson with rookie Jaxson Dart for now, even if Wilson threw a costly interception in overtime. Wilson was infinitely more efficient and effective in this loss than he was in Week 1. In fact, there was a lot of vintage Russ — Wilson went 30-of-41 for 450 yards. Most notably, he looked more comfortable in the pocket and had tremendous success downfield. He went an impressive 7-of-11 for 264 yards with three TDs on passes of 20-plus air yards. One of those touchdowns was a perfect 48-yard strike to WR Malik Nabers with 25 seconds remaining in regulation.

During Monday’s episode of ESPN’s “First Take,” co-host Molly Qerim asked NFL insider Adam Schefter if Giants quarterback Jameis Winston or even Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins could be players that the Bengals would try to target in a trade.

“You could do that, and they will bring in another quarterback, but they’re not bringing in another guy to supplant Jake Browning,” Schefter said. “Jake Browning will be the guy. They’ve been through this before. When Burrow suffered that wrist injury, they rode Jake Browning. Jake Browning has all kinds of passing records in high school in the state of California. Jake Browning has got some tremendous accomplishments.”

Prepare for an invasion of “Are the 0-2 Chiefs done?” content this week that rivals the spotted lanternfly, and like those ubiquitous little devils, needs to be squashed. As long as Patrick Mahomes is upright and playoff-eligible, they remain a threat, so unlike State Farm, I can’t get there.

But as discussed last week, there is cause for concern. For one of the only times since Mahomes started down the GOAT trail, there was never a point where I believed the Chiefs would win yesterday against the Eagles. That very well may be true again next week when the Ravens come to town, which makes this get-right game versus the Giants surprisingly critical. Falter here, and suddenly any talk about the Chiefs and seeding will be more likely to apply to wedding floral arrangements than the playoffs.

Mahomes was basically an overqualified game manager in the second half of Sunday’s game. Without Worthy and Rashee Rice (suspended), Mahomes had to be excellent using the Chiefs’ quick-passing game. He finished with 187 passing yards, 66 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. He is also playing alongside rookie left tackle Josh Simmons and new left guard Kingsley Suamataia. At running back, Hunt no longer has burst, and starter Isiah Pacheco had just two attempts that gained 5 or more yards. Mahomes’ 13-yard scramble capped the Chiefs’ lone first-half touchdown drive.
