Roob’s Eagles Observations: Understanding the wild turnover on Eagles’ roster – NBCSP

Saquon Barkley’s 3.3 average against Dallas wasn’t his first game with a pedestrian rushing average as an Eagle. He had a 2.6 average on 18 carries in Week 6 last year against the Browns, and a 3.4 on 19-for-65 in Week 15 against the Steelers. What happened next? A week after the Browns game, he was 17-for-176 with a TD against the Giants and a week after the Steelers game he was 29-for-150 with two TDs in Washington. I would expect a similar dynamic Sunday in Kansas City. A couple things about Barkley vs. the Cowboys. He was 10-for-49 in the first half with that impressive 10-yard touchdown and then he opened the third quarter with a 12-yard run. That made him 11-for-61 when the weather delay hit late in the third quarter, a 5.6 average. Nobody on either offense looked right after the 64-minute delay, and that sure includes the Eagles’ offensive line. Saquon’s seven runs after the delay looked like this: -1, +1, +4, +0, -4, +0, -1. He didn’t get any blocking during that stretch and had no holes to run through. He didn’t all of a sudden become a different player. He just didn’t have a chance. Saquon’s the last guy I worry about. He’ll be fine. I expect a big bounce-back Sunday at Arrowhead. As long as there isn’t a weather delay.

Eagles roster news: 3 moves announced ahead of Chiefs game – BGN

Cameron Williams making the Eagles’ 53-man roster out of training camp was surprising since he didn’t play well. There was thought that the Birds would look to stash the 21-year-old rookie offensive tackle on injured reserve. And that’s exactly what the team is doing here … just a little later than originally expected. Williams purportedly suffered a shoulder injury in practice this week. By placing him on IR, the Eagles opened up a roster spot that they won’t fill prior to this Chiefs game.

Chiefs-Eagles 5 questions with the enemy: 4 offensive coordinators in 4 seasons? – Arrowhead Pride

On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs host the Philadelphia Eagles. We welcome site manager Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation — our sister SB Nation site covering the Eagles — for Five Questions with the Enemy.

Mailbag: How long can the Eagles’ Super Bowl window stay open? – PhillyVoice

I think that the very simple way to answer this question is that they have an ultra-talented roster with a lot of young players, the most important of whom are under contract for many years down the road, including Jalen Hurts, who has 38-10 record since 2022. They also have a smart general manager in Howie Roseman who never stops seeking competitive edges over the rest of the league, and more generally an organizational infrastructure that innovates strategic thinking across all areas of organization, whether that’s gameplay analytics, college and professional scouting, player health, or security operations, to name a few. But the Eagles’ greatest practice might be the way they structure player contracts, largely because Jeffrey Lurie is willing to spend whatever cash is necessary upfront to gain a major competitive advantage. They operate under the salary cap in a way that allows them to outspend every other team in the NFL, which we explained in some detail back in May. From a 60,000-foot view, they’re simply very well run, and although they’re not immune to a disastrous season on occasion, they’re extremely unlikely to experience long periods of sustained failure, like you see with so many other NFL franchises. So I guess to answer the question, as long as they continue to operate the way they do, they’re never going to be very far from contention.

A Model Franchise? – Iggles Blitz

Jalen Hurts was a second round pick. He’s having a good career, but isn’t close to being an all-time great. Nick Sirianni wasn’t sought after when the Eagles hired him. He was very much an under-the-radar candidate. But you have to give the Eagles organization credit for building great teams by being smart, creative and aggressive. One of the most impressive parts about what Jeff Lurie and Howie Roseman have done is that things haven’t gone perfectly. Carson Wentz looked great for a couple of years and then had to be traded. Doug Pederson was fired after the disastrous 2020 season. The Jalen Reagor pick was a huge bust. Last year’s free agent star, Bryce Huff, was a huge bust. Things do not always go right, or anywhere close to it. Roseman does a brilliant job of solving the problem. He’ll trade away the players he can. Sometimes they bring a good return, other times it isn’t much. Roseman will cut guys if he has to. He’s not afraid to admit something didn’t work out and then move on. Failures don’t make him any less aggressive. He understands not all moves are going to work.

Eagles notes: Super Bowl rematch, Jalen Carter returns and Tank Bigsby debuts – The Athletic

The early word was that the Eagles were intrigued about how Bigsby could help on kickoff returns, especially with the new rules. Bigsby only had six kickoff returns last season and was not a primary returner at Auburn, so there’s some projection on the Eagles’ part. The special teams element is a benefit of the move more than the impetus. Howie Roseman traded a fifth- and sixth-round pick — a steep price if this was motivated by the return game. That’s more than San Francisco traded for Brian Robinson this summer. It’s even more than the Roseman sent for Jordan Howard in 2019. Rather, Roseman more likely viewed Bigsby as a talented, young, cost-controlled depth behind Barkley, who stayed healthy throughout the 2024 season. If Barkley misses time this season, don’t be surprised if Bigsby emerges as the Eagles’ top option.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie makes big jump on Forbes 400 list – Billy Penn

Jeff Lurie, step right up. That was the takeaway from the recently released Forbes 400 list for 2025, which included Pennsylvania’s wealthiest residents. Seven billionaires from Greater Philadelphia made the cut. Lurie purchased the Philadelphia Eagles in 1994 for $195 million, then a record amount for a franchise. It has proven a good investment, and Lurie is generally regarded as one of the best owners in pro sports. Last year, with a Super Bowl win, was an especially good year. Lurie, of Wynnewood, moved up more than 50 spots in Forbes’ annual rankings, to #191, with a net worth of $7.6 billion.

NFL issued five taunting fines for Week 1 – PFT

Lions defensive back Brian Branch, who (as noted by MDS) picked up a couple of fines during the loss at Green Bay, Packers safety Xavier McKinney, Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith, Lions receiver Jameson Williams, and Brown receiver Jerry Jeudy were fined $11,593 each for taunting.

Cowboys fan confidence rebounds after Week 1 performance – Blogging The Boys

On top of that, they had to go on the road and play the reigning world champions, their hated NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. Given all that, when we asked about confidence in the direction of the team before Week 1, only 35% of respondents felt things were headed in the right direction. That was the lowest among all fanbases of the 32 NFL teams based on SB Nation polls. Only the Dolphins (45%) and the Colts (44%) fanbases were close. But after the Cowboys played a very competitive game against the Eagles that could have been a win with a few CeeDee Lamb catches, the mood has definitely changed. Now, 68% of respondents think the team is headed in the right direction.

Ready or not, the Jaxson Dart era might start soon for the New York Giants – Big Blue View

The Jaxson Dart era could start as early as Sunday afternoon for the New York Giants. In the event quarterback Russell Wilson and the Giants offense look as inept against the Dallas Cowboys as they did during an offense-less 21-6 loss in Week 1 to the Washington Commanders, no one should be surprised if Daboll turns to his rookie quarterback. Whether or not that is a good idea is debatable. And it certainly has been a hot topic of debate.

Giants in no rush to bench Russell Wilson for Jaxson Dart, sources say – ESPN

There is “no sense of urgency” in the New York Giants organization to bench Russell Wilson and start rookie Jaxson Dart, sources told ESPN. It doesn’t mean a change can’t come soon at the quarterback position, but the Giants would prefer that it not happen anytime soon, according to sources. New York would prefer to continue to be patient, let Wilson play well and give Dart the time he needs to develop, sources said. The continued absence of left tackle Andrew Thomas also does not make it easier for the Giants to speed up their timeline to play Dart.

NFL Nostalgia: The time a 43-year-old QB won 4 days after being signed – SB Nation

Carolina is reeling. Moore is nowhere near ready to start an NFL game, and the team is hoping-against-hope they can at least game manage their way to a winning record and make the playoffs, praying that Delhomme might be ready to return before the end of the year. It’s this desperation that leads them to make one of the funniest roster moves we’ve seen at the position … The team signs 43-year-old Vinny Testaverde on a Wednesday. They’re set to play the Cardinals on Sunday. Not only is Testaverde the oldest quarterback in the NFL, but the prior year he’d only thrown three passes total as a backup in New England. The Patriots cut him on September 1st of 2007, meaning for the last two and a half months he’s been at home chilling, assuming his career was over — then the Panthers call him and say “hey buddy, we need you to play QB for us this week.”
