What I’m hearing on Tyreek Hill’s future, 49ers’ injury bug and Chiefs’ reset – The Athletic

While we’re talking about big-time receivers teams could sniff around before the trade deadline in early November, Philly’s A.J. Brown, who had a quiet Week 1, drew some interest months ago. But teams poking around during the offseason were told by Eagles GM Howie Roseman flat-out: No dice. We’ll see if anything changes in the coming weeks as we again monitor Brown’s connection with Jalen Hurts.

Eagles-Chiefs Game Preview: 5 questions and answers with the Week 2 enemy – BGN

The Philadelphia Eagles are taking on the Kansas City Chiefs at “GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium” on Sunday afternoon. In order to preview this Week 2 battle between the two Super Bowl LIX teams, I reached out to our enemies over at Arrowhead Pride. The jolly John Dixon kindly took the time to answer my questions about this upcoming tilt. Let’s take a look at the answers.

Game Preview – PHI at KC – Iggles Blitz

He showed a lot of promise last week and should improve the more he plays. He is a rookie and will make some mistakes. RT Jawaan Taylor remains an erratic blocker. He will have some really good moments and some really bad ones. Nolan Smith should get the better of that matchup. The thing we all want to see is how Jalen Carter will play. You know he’ll have a chip on his shoulder after last week. I just hope he doesn’t try to do too much. Nick Sirianni needs to make sure Carter is focused. The Eagles pass rush was great in the SB in part because the coverage was so good and Mahomes had to hold the ball. If the Eagles can win up front again, they’ll have a great chance to win the game.

Eagles-Chiefs previews: 5 matchups to watch in Super Bowl rematch – PHLY

Jalen Hurts vs. the blitz: Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s tendency to send extra rushers at opposing quarterbacks is well-documented, which should hold especially true against Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense considering their uneven history against pressure looks over the last few seasons. Spagnuolo’s defense blitzed Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert on 17 of his 41 dropbacks in Week 1 according to Pro Football Focus, but Herbert was able to gash the Kansas City secondary for explosive plays as a result. He went 1o-for-14 for 140 yards against the blitz with an average depth of target of 9.6 yards. By comparison, the Cowboys blitzed Hurts on just six of his 34 dropbacks in the opener and Hurts’ average depth of target on his four passing attempts was 0.7 yards. Spagnuolo testing the Eagles’ answers against pressure feels more like a matter of when than if. Hurts did just fine against the blitz in Super Bowl LIX, averaging 9.3 yards per attempt with an ADOT of 15.8 yards. Whether he can have a repeat performance will likely be the determining factor in the pass game on Sunday.

Eagles notebook: How the Eagles plan to replace their fullback – NBCSP

The two names Patullo mentioned specifically: Tight ends Kylen Granson and Cameron Latu. During the Cowboys game, we saw Granson take over some of those responsibilities. Of his 17 offensive snaps in the opener, three came in the backfield. “I’ve been doing it a long time now,” Granson said. “It’s part of the assignment, part of my role. Just doing the best I can when it comes to that. Making sure I kick them out or seal them in and just watch 2-6 do his thing.” While Granson made the Eagles’ 53-man roster out of training camp, Latu is on their practice squad. But there’s a chance he could be elevated or even promoted, especially because Dallas Goedert is dealing with a knee injury and is out for Sunday. It seems notable that Latu’s number this week changed from 87 to 36 this week. Unlike Granson, Latu said he has never played fullback before, but he’s confident he’ll be able to pick it up. “I feel like fullback is the same type of blocking techniques as tight end,” Latu said. “Just a different alignment.”

NFL Week 2 best bets: Game picks, under-the radar plays, player props – ESPN

Philadelphia Eagles at Kansas City Chiefs total points UNDER 46.5 (-105). Solak: The Chiefs secondary looked surprisingly susceptible in their season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers, and I’ll be looking for overs in Chiefs games as the season goes on and their receiver room returns to health — but not this week. The Eagles remain one of the heaviest running teams over expectation — especially with Jalen Hurts scrambling on a whopping 24% of his dropbacks in Week 1 — and as such encourage a running clock. With Xavier Worthy likely laid up for this game, the Chiefs lack big-play threats and project to move the ball methodically as they throw to JuJu Smith-Schuster and Travis Kelce.

‘Poetry in motion’: How Joshua Uche is reestablishing his pass-rush identity on the other side of the Eagles-Chiefs rivalry – Inquirer

In a very small sample size, Uche is off to a strong start in Philadelphia. According to Pro Football Focus, Uche led all NFL defenders with at least 18 pass-rush snaps in Week 1 in pass-rush win rate (43.8%). His four pressures tied for the team high with Nolan Smith, who took 11 more pass-rush snaps. Even though he failed to bring down Dak Prescott for a sack, Uche was in the Cowboys’ backfield all night long. From training camp to the start of the season, Uche’s arsenal of pass-rush moves have stood out to his teammates, including fellow edge rusher Ogbo Okoronkwo. “He’s just doing crazy stuff out there and it’s working,” Okoronkwo said. “I saw him, he hop-skipped off the ball, gave a stutter, and then swiped the tackle’s hands and went inside and won. I’m just seeing him do things that are just unheard of. And it’s working so effectively. It’s like poetry in motion.”

Fantasy Football WR Report: Man, zone coverage performance ahead of NFL Week 2 – PFF

Vic Fangio’s Eagles played man and zone at league-average rates in Week 1. They ranked in the bottom 10 in man coverage metrics and in the top 10 in zone coverage metrics. Tyquan Thornton found all of his fantasy success in Week 1 when facing man coverage. He could continue to be a factor if Xavier Worthy misses time.

Spadaro: 6 storylines to follow in Eagles vs. Chiefs – PE.com

Newest Eagles … how can they help on Sunday? Za’Darius Smith is going to help on the edge for the defense at some point and could get some reps in this game as the Eagles look to improve their punch in the pass rush. There are seven edge players/defensive ends on this roster and Smith is here to add depth and experience and production. We shall see on Sunday. Tank Bigsby is likely to be active with Will Shipley sidelined, but how much can he contribute to the offense at running back? He could also help on kickoff returns, should the Eagles look in that direction – more than 75 percent of the NFL’s kickoffs were returned in Week 1.

5 things to watch as the Chiefs host the Eagles in Week 2 – Arrowhead Pride

Who covers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith — and can the Chiefs rush the passer? Both of the Eagles’ top wideouts were quiet in Week 1, which should raise alarms for the Chiefs. With quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley and a great offensive line, Philadelphia could beat Dallas with a ground-and-pound game — which means they didn’t have to put much on tape in the passing game. Both Brown and Smith have tormented the Chiefs in the past, so it will be interesting to see how Kansas City goes about covering them. Previously, the Chiefs have put cornerback Trent McDuffie on Brown, leaving others to cover Smith. This time, however, Kansas City could switch — putting McDuffie on Smith and using a combination of players to double and bracket Brown. The Eagles are extremely deep, so assigning two players to Brown would leave a weakness elsewhere — but if McDuffie can hold Smith back, that will limit the impact Philadelphia’s passing game can have. Up front, the Chiefs’ defensive line needs to play much better. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was hit only four times last Friday — and Kansas City was unable to get any pressure on him without blitzing. If Hurts has time to throw (and his two favorite targets are open) it could be a long afternoon in Kansas City.

Commanders Vs. Packers – Studs and Duds – Hogs Haven

Jayden Daniels: It was a poor showing for the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year against a very good Packers team on the road in prime time. He looked confused, inaccurate and was holding onto the football too long in the pocket (that is when he had one). He also didn’t get much help from the right side of his line and looked flustered and out of rhythm because of this.

Jerry Jones saw Jalen Carter ejection as “the man upstairs evening it up” – PFT

“I liked to have dropped my teeth when I started seeing him walk off because he’s such a fabulous football player,” Jones said in a Friday appearance on 105.3 the Fan, via TheAthletic.com. “I said, ‘Well, I guess the man upstairs is evening it up. We don’t have Micah [Parsons]; they’re letting us [not] have [Jalen Carter].’” Jones shouldn’t count on the same luck happening again this year, especially not when the Eagles come to Dallas in Week 12.

Jerry Jones acknowledges Packers’ early success with Micah Parsons, maintains trade was right move – NFL.com

“There are 30 other teams, other than the Cowboys, playing without Micah,” Jones said Friday on 105.3 The Fan. “There’s ways to play defense and scheme that don’t necessarily involve, on any player, whether it be Deion Sanders, looking way back or who it is… A lot of people won a lot of games and didn’t have Deion Sanders on the field for them. How’d that happen? That’s called you’ve got to have about minimum 40-something players to play this game.”

Packers fans thank Jerry Jones for Micah Parsons after win over Commanders – SB Nation

Packers fans were all too willing to chant “Thank you Jerry” after the game, in reference to the Micah Parsons trade. And the newest Packer was there cheering them on. But those fans were chanting with good reason. The recently acquired defender was again a game-wrecking force on Thursday night, slicing into the Commanders’ backfield early and often. On this play from the third quarter, Parsons met at quarterback Jayden Daniels, along with Edgerrin Cooper, for this sack of the Washington passer.

Cowboys injuries: DaRon Bland ruled out, Andrew Thomas doubtful for Giants – Blogging The Boys

As expected, DaRon Bland (foot) did not practice today after sitting out all week, and will be out for Sunday and more time in the coming weeks. Bland has not been placed on injured reserve, giving optimism that he may return in four weeks or fewer. Malik Hooker was limited the last two practices (foot), but he returned to practice in a full capacity and should be set to play Sunday.

Week 2 best bets for Giants-Cowboys – Big Blue View

DAL -4.5 (-120). This feels like a rat line, but I’m still buying. In the Cowboys current 8-0 winning streak against Big Blue, they’ve won each game by at least five points and they’ve won half of them by more than two touchdowns. I know this isn’t a particularly strong Dallas team as compared to some recent editions, but they’ve had an extra three days to rest and prepare, and the Giants didn’t exactly show out in week 1, and are still looking for their first TD of the season. All streaks have to end sometime, but I’m OK laying the points, even at -120.
