Good morning, New York Giants fans!
Happy Saturday and welcome to Week 3 of the college football season.
We have a nice selection of games this week, with a blend of ranked teams and teams with some under-the-radar prospects who could make noise over the course of the draft process. The focus for the Giants will (once again) be on the offensive line, and we’ll want to get a baseline for as many quality linemen as possible by the end of the season.
The Giants might also need help at cornerback and wide receiver, so we’ll be keeping an eye on those positions as well.
Northwestern vs. (4) Oregon
Fox – Noon
We’re back on offensive line watch for the Giants — not that we’re ever really not looking for offensive linemen for the Giants. This game has a pair of big offensive tackles who could appeal to the Giants, perhaps even early on Day 2.
Oregon tackle Isaiah World is a massive prospect who’s listed at 6-foot-8, 320 pounds. He’s a reliable pass protector who has the athleticism to develop into a very good protector at the NFL level. Likewise, his twitchiness and mass can make him a good run blocker as well.
Northwestern’s Caleb Tiernan, meanwhile, doesn’t quite have the same athletic upside as World but has a reputation as a steady veteran on the edge. He has good size as well and has been a dependable protector at both left and right tackle. He plays with great strength and understands how to use angles and leverage to his advantage.
Prospects to watch
Northwestern
- Caleb Tiernan (OT – 72)
- Anto Saka (EDGE – 4)
Oregon
- Isaiah World (OT – 76)
- Kenyon Sadiq (TE – 18)
- Makhi Hughes (RB – 20)
- Matayo Uiagalelei (EDGE – 10)
- Dillon Thieneman (S – 31)
(15) Tennessee vs. (6) Georgia
ABC – 3:30 p.m.
We have a battle between ranked teams for our afternoon game.
Georgia isn’t at the heights they were a couple years ago, but are still one of the more talented teams in the nation and there will plenty of future NFL players on display.
The Giants could be looking at Georgia players like Christen Miller or C.J. Allen to help (further) reinforce their defensive front. On the flip side, WR Noah Thomas could be the big-bodied possession receiver they currently lack.
Cornerback Jermod McCoy could also interest the Giants if they decide to move on from both Deonte Banks and Cor’Dale Flott.
Prospects to watch
Georgia
- Zacharaiah Branch (WR – 1)
- Noah Thomas (WR – 5)
- Lawson Luckie (TE – 7)
- Christen Miller (iDL – 52)
- C.J. Allen (LB – 3)
- Daylen Everette (CB – 6)
Tennessee
- Joshua Josephs (EDGE – 19)
- Jermod McCoy (CB – 3)
(3) LSU vs. Florida
ABC – 7:30 p.m.
We don’t normally like to circle back to programs quite this quickly, but this is already the second time we’re looking at LSU.
Part of that is because Garrett Nussmeier will have a pretty big impact on the upcoming draft. Even though the Giants (probably) won’t be looking for a quarterback, they still have an outsized influence on the shape of the board. Nussmeier could push good prospects down to the Giants, or perhaps even be trade bait.
Giants fans will likely want to pay attention to Florida linemen OT Austin Barber and iOL Jake Slaughter. Either could potentially help reinforce the Giants’ offensive line and both are also “All Name Team” candidates — always important.
Prospects to watch
(3) LSU
- Garrett Nussmeier (QB – 18)
- Nic Anderson (WR – 4)
- Patrick Payton (EDGE – 6)
- Whit Weeks (LB – 40)
- Harold Perkins (LB – 7)
- Mansoor Delane (CB – 4)
Florida
- Austin Barber (OT – 58)
- Jake Slaughter (OC – 66)
- Eugene Wilson III (WR – 3)
- Caleb Banks (iDL – 88)
- Tyreak Sapp (EDGE – 94)
