Every team faces a “Must Win” at some point in the season.
Unfortunately for the New York Giants, that may have come as soon as their Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Both teams carry an 0-1 record into the second week of the season, and both losses come against division rivals.
The Giants are coming off of a pathetic offensive performance against the Washington Commanders, complete with blocking failures and no production from the passing or running games.
There were calls to replace QB Russell Wilson before the game was over, as well as speculation that head coach Brian Daboll wouldn’t survive the season. It was, suffice it to say, the exact opposite of the kind of start the Giants needed for 2025.
For their part, the Cowboys didn’t look like world beaters against the Philadelphia Eagles. They’re already searching for answers without Micah Parsons, and we recently learned that they’ll be without starting corner DaRon Bland.
Like week 1, this is a winnable game for the Giants, or at least it should be.
So we asked the Big Blue View community the question: is this a Must Win game for the Giants?
Fans are split on whether this is a “Must Win” game for the Giants. Slightly more would be okay with a loss as long as the Giants at least make strides and play well.
However, fans are in almost unanimous agreement that the team must at least be competitive this Sunday. A full 90 percent of fans are demanding that as the base line, with a bit less than half of that number wanting a win.
Only 10 percent of fans don’t care whether the Giants win or lose, nor how they play the game.
Fan confidence, meanwhile, has absolutely cratered.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise, all things considered. Vibes were incredibly high coming into the season, but that just made for a painful fall.
Even so, this is the fourth-lowest fan confidence level we’ve seen since (at least) 2023. Fan confidence hit 22 percent after their Week 1 loss to the Minnesota Vikings last year, 21 percent after the Giants’ 27-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 13 last year, and 26 percent after their 35-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 15.
On the flip side, fan confidence rocketed back up to preseason levels after the Giants’ wins over the Browns and Seahawks. So we might see the mood improve significantly if the Giants manage a win over the Cowboys.
