I was just trying to be available when Joe needed me. Obviously, my mind goes to the one that I dropped, and I don’t want any of those. Improvement driven to not have those mistakes. That first week usually has some clunky starts to it. But I’m happy to be able to be there for Joe to be an outlet when he needed it. As the season goes on, those plays are going to pop for big gains for Tee, Ja’Marr and all those guys.

“Because he missed so much time, I kept reminding everyone of something Coach (Joe) Paterno used to always say: ‘You’re better off being one game late than two games early,’” Golden said. “We tried to not put too much on those (rookies), and we had some guys that could sub out so we can slow it down for them. If there were any corrections they could see it a little bit. I was really pleased with all three of those guys and how they impacted the game.”
The Bengals won the game despite putting up just 7 yards in the second half, which included a nightmare fourth quarter where they totaled -18 yards. And just so we’re all on the same page, yes, that is a negative sign in front of the 18. Their yardage total was the lowest by any NFL team in the fourth quarter of a game since at least 1991.
