NFL Week 1: Rookie Team of the Week | PFF
EDGE: Abdul Carter, New York Giants – 81.5. Considered to be one of the top edge defender prospects in years, Abdul Carter displayed he was more than worthy of being the third overall pick in the draft. The Penn State product recorded three pressures in his debut, including his first NFL sack.
The Week 1 winner of Angry Runs: Giants rookie RB Cam Skattebo
The only argument against benching a struggling Wilson for Dart is a fear of rushing the rookie’s developmental timeline. But the Giants already indicated they believe Dart is ready to play by making him the No. 2 quarterback on game day. If there were any concerns about Dart’s readiness, they could have easily made veteran Jameis Winston the backup.
It’s understandable to be hesitant to rush Dart onto the field, but there isn’t some test teams can conduct to determine if a player is ready. They can only base that decision on what he’s shown and what they know about his mental progress. There’s no perfect formula for making the change to a young quarterback. But a struggling veteran plus a promising rookie typically equals a change.
When will Giants start Jaxson Dart? This should be one of biggest factors in decision | NJ.com
For now, Jaxson Dart remains on the sideline.
But if quarterback Russell Wilson and the Giants’ offense continue to struggle, as both did in Sunday’s 21-6 season-opening loss at the Commanders, we’ll see Dart starting sooner rather than later.
I understand all the reasons for why the New York Giants went with Russell Wilson as their starting quarterback this season, and why they are sticking with him heading into Sunday’s pivotal game at the Dallas Cowboys.
I just can’t say with conviction after watching Sunday’s disappointing 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders that it isn’t time for Jaxson Dart.
QB Report Cards for 2025 NFL Week 1 | Bleacher Report
Grade: F. The coach can protect his QB1 all he wants. Russell Wilson is on borrowed time with first-round quarterback Jaxson Dart on the bench, and the clock is ticking. The timetable will only speed up if the 14-year veteran doesn’t play significantly better in the near future.
The only thing Wilson did that proved to be productive was lead his team with 44 rushing yards, which in itself is an indictment of the offense and where it’s at currently.
NFL Week 1: Five things we liked and didn’t like | CBSSports.com
It feels like it could get late early for both teams. The Giants have lost their last three season openers and have been outscored 89-12(!) in those three games. Losing an opener is OK, but there is no way to destroy hope for a season quicker than to get absolutely steamrolled — and produce a lifeless offensive performance — in an opener. Jaxson Dart time seems near.

New York Giants CB Paulson Adebo talks “traveling” against top receivers | USAToday.com
Adebo, as the Giants’ No. 1 cornerback, was mainly assigned to the Commanders’ top wideout, “Scary” Terry McLaurin, a notorious nuisance to the Giants in recent years. He fared pretty well considering.
“When you’re traveling, you’re going up against a receiver, but I feel like the preparation is the same,” Adebo said. “You kind of just dial yourself in on one guy and focus on whatever the play call is and executing your technique. But I don’t think there’s too, too much into it.”
The lost Giants draft that sums up the failings that won’t go away | New York Post
It’s difficult to completely swing and miss on an entire draft class. But it appears that’s what Joe Schoen and the Giants did with their 2023 haul.
A crop of young players who were supposed to be part of a rebuild and become impact contributors are instead providing almost no value. Last weekend, Deonte Banks was a backup, JMS struggled, Jalin Hyatt did not play a single snap and nobody else was on the active roster.
Who calls plays for every NFL team in 2025? What to know | ESPN.com
Over the past two seasons, the Giants have run a passing play on first down 60% of the time, the highest rate in the NFL. The Giants had max protection (at least seven blockers) 13% of the time last year, the fourth-highest rate in NFL
Jeff Hostetler quarterbacked Giants to Super Bowl XXV win after getting hurt in NFC title game | ESPN.com
Hostetler spent the whole week leading up to the Super Bowl tending to his left leg. It wasn’t great, but there was no way he was going to miss the biggest game of his life. All these years later, Hostetler said he had suffered a torn ACL. He actually played the end of the NFC Championship Game, the Super Bowl, and the rest of his NFL career with no intact ACL in his knee!
“I’m one of the very few that had enough other things going on structure-wise that I was able to continue to function,” Hostetler said. To this day, he maintains it has never been fixed. He’s had MRIs since, and doctors will look at the knee and mention the ACL is gone. It’s something he already knows, but it’s also nothing one can really tell without doing a thorough evaluation.
This week’s opponent
But while the 24-20 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles stings, there were positives to take away from the opener, including the play of both Tyler Guyton and Tyler Booker — two first-round picks only one year apart who now help form the new-look offensive line in Dallas.
Both acquitted themselves very well in Philly, and their physicality was on full display.
However, when Clark was on the field for 40 of the Cowboys’ 62 defensive snaps (64.5%), 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year running back Saquon Barkley and other Philadelphia running backs struggled. Eagles running backs combined for 24 carries in Week 1, and they averaged 2.5 yards per carry in the 15 plays on their runs when Clark was on the field, according to NFL Media. On the nine rushes by Eagles running backs in which Clark was on the sideline, their yards per carry figure jumped to 6.4 yards per carry.
Jerry Jones suggested RB Jaydon Blue might be active for Cowboys on Sunday | Blogging the Boys
The Cowboys got some solid production out of veteran Javonte Williams last week and some that was okay from Miles Sanders. Unfortunately Sanders had a critical fumble which has people wanting to see Blue as soon as possible.
Dallas drafted Blue in the fifth round this year out of the University of Texas and his speed is something that the offense could certainly benefit from. It will be interesting to track all week long how he is trending with regards to playing.
