Landover, Md. — Offensive tackle Andrew Thomas, ramping up slowly in his recovery from Lisfranc surgery, will head the list of inactive players for the New York Giants on Sunday as they open their season against the Washington Commanders.
Thomas played just six games last season before undergoing the surgery. He spent most of the summer on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list after undergoing a second surgery in the spring to remove a screw from the surgically-repaired foot.
James Hudson will start in Thomas’s place.
Fourth-year offensive lineman Evan Neal, who converted to guard this season, will also be inactive. There was hope that Neal, who flopped at right tackle over his first three seasons, would push Greg Van Roten for a starting job. That did not materialize, and veteran Aaron Stinnie will be the primary backup at guard.
With Jaxson Dart as QB2 behind Russell Wilson Jameis Winston is inactive and will serve as the emergency third quarterback.
Defensive tackle Darius Alexander, the team’s third-round pick is also inactive. The Giants elevated defensive lineman Elijah Garcia from the practice squad to fill that spot.
Safety Beau Brade and seventh-round pick Thomas Fidone, a tight end, are also inactive
