The New York Giants open their season Sunday at 1 p.m. ET against the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md. Kickoff is at 1 p.m., with the game broadcast on FOX and hear on the WFAN 101.9-FM and Giants Radio Network affiliates.
As of Saturday, the Giants were 6.5-point underdogs, per FanDuel Sportsbook.
The Giants are coming off a 3-14 season, but a revised roster, including a rebuilt quarterback room, and a 3-0 preseason in which the offense averaged 35.7 points per game has bred optimism.
Big Blue View writers who picked the game were split on the outcome.
The Commanders went 12-5 and reached the NFC Championship Game last season. Washington beat the Giants twice, but by only a combined eight points.
The Giants are trying to reverse a trend of poor Week 1 play. Over the past two seasons, they have been outscored 68-6 in lopsided losses to the Dallas Cowboys (40-0) and Minnesota Vikings (28-6). Including the 2022 preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans, the Giants have been outscored 53-3 in the first halves of season-openers during the Brian Daboll era.
