Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season got off to a bit of a weird start on Thursday night when the Philadelphia Eagles narrowly defeated the Dallas Cowboys 24-20. After the ceremony that celebrated Philadelphia’s second Super Bowl title, the opening kick off unfortunately began with an injury, followed by Eagles star defensive tackle Jalen Carter spitting(!) on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. And while I am sure that isn’t how the NFL wanted the new season to get started, they have plenty of juicy matchups for fans to look forward to in the rest of the Week 1 slate.
Obviously we have the divisional matchup that many fans have been waiting for in the Detroit Lions vs. the Green Bay Packers. Elsewhere there are several matchups that should intrigue football fans all over the world. We have the Kansas City Chiefs facing off against the Los Angeles Chargers in what should be a fun game to watch on Friday evening. In the same 4 p.m. E.T. window that the Lions play in, we have the San Francisco 49ers opening their season with a trip north to play the Seattle Seahawks, and the Houston Texans matching up with the Los Angeles Rams.
In a game that should have the attention of most Lions’ fans, the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears are on “Monday Night Football,” preceded by a titanic matchup between two of the game’s most dominant quarterbacks—Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.
My answer: I am going with the potential AFC Championship game preview between Baltimore and Buffalo. Outside of watching the Lions play, Allen and Jackson are two of my favorite players to watch in the league. Quite simply, those two do a lot of things with a football in their hands that not many people on the planet can even fathom attempting.
I am hoping the Lions take care of business in the 4 p.m. ET window, leaving us free to order a pizza, kick back and watch a duel between the NFL’s last two MVPs. What about you? Which game are you most looking forward to watching Week 1? Let us know in the comments below.
