It’s only Week 1, but the Eagles are already having to deal with injuries. First, it was FB Ben VanSumeren injured in the first half against the Cowboys, and then RB Will Shipley sometime before the half. Shipley’s injury wasn’t revealed until he was missing from the sideline coming out of halftime, but the team soon after announced he was questionable to return due to a rib injury.
Shipley clearly had a bigger role in the Eagles offense, recording three carries for 26 yards in the first half of the season opener. He also handled kick return duties before being sidelined. John Metchie stepped in to return the second-half kick-off, and A.J. Dillon took snaps on offense, in Shipley’s absence. Hopefully this isn’t something that will keep the running back sidelined for long because he’s a big part of the Eagles game plan.
As far as Adoree’ Jackson’s concussion scare, he was cleared to return to the game, though he’s been struggling to play well. Sydney Brown was shaken up after making a tackle, and Landon Dickerson was slow to get up on a previous drive. Dickerson was able to stay in and play for awhile, but ended up leaving for the locker room halfway through the fourth quarter after getting rolled up on.
It’s never ideal when the injury list starts growing, it’s even less ideal when it’s in Week 1 of a very long season.
