One day after practicing in pads for just the second time, New York Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas was held out of practice on Thursday.
Thomas, recovering from Lisfranc surgery, was on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list until just before the final preseason game. He has practiced in limited fashion as the Giants are cautious in ramping him up as he rehabs.
Thomas was the only Giant on Wednesday’s injury report. His status for Sunday’s season opener against the Washington Commanders is unknown, although not practicing on Thursday is not an encouraging sign. Head coach Brian Daboll said Thomas “looked good” on Wednesday and would not yet rule him out for Sunday’s game.
The Giants practice on Friday before heading to Landover, Md. on Saturday for Sunday afternoon’s game.
Thomas’s contract has been restructured by the Giants, pushing $12 million into the final four years of the deal (2026-2029). Thus, it seems as if they have no real concern about long-term implications from the Lisfranc injury.
