The 2025 NFL season is finally here and the Philadelphia Eagles will get things underway on Thursday night by celebrating their recent Super Bowl win by hanging a new banner in Lincoln Financial Field ahead of the Week 1 opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
Usually rivalry matchups come later in a season, but the NFL scheduled them from the onset this year giving both teams a greater chance to be healthy and compete. The Cowboys are certainly dealing with several injuries as they approach this road game, but the Eagles have nearly their entire 53-man roster available.
There are fewer question marks for the Eagles heading into the season — they retained DC Vic Fangio to finally have some continuity on defense and new OC Kevin Patullo has been with this team and group of players for years. Still, it’s a new year, and the team that dominated the Chiefs 40-6 seven months ago, will likely look at least a little different in their debut. It’s comforting that they return so many offensive starters, and have a good number of defenders set in their roles, as well.
Heading into the game, there were three positions for which the team didn’t name an official starter, although Fangio admitted they knew where guys stood in the depth chart, they just didn’t have to reveal it yet. Adoree’ Jackson and Jakorian Bennett were competing for the CB2 job, rookie Jihaad Campbell and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. were battling for a starting linebacker role, and the second starting safety was between Sydney Brown and rookie Andrew Mukuba. There’s bound to be some shuffling through the first few weeks of the season.
The Eagles have given fans so many reasons to celebrate so far in 2025, and after an exciting spring and encouraging offseason, it’s time to see what the future holds — hopefully it’s another Lombardi Trophy.
Here’s everything you need to know about how to watch the game.
