The Philadelphia Eagles made a “strong play” to trade for Micah Parsons this summer, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter.

To no surprise, the Dallas Cowboys were said to have zero interest in trading their All-Pro edge rusher to a division rival.

Jerry Jones instead traded Parsons to the Green Bay Packers for Kenny “The Best Run Stopper In NFL History” Clark and two first-round picks.

It’s not hard to believe that Howie Roseman would’ve been willing to beat that offer. Parsons is a future Hall of Fame type of talent and the Eagles could certainly afford to boost their pass rush outlook. It was worth a try.

The sense here is that Parsons had some level of interest in returning to his home state of Pennsylvania, where he could’ve been reunited with former Penn State teammate Saquon Barkley. The two remain friends, as evidenced by Parsons attending Barkley’s birthday party celebration in New Orleans during the aftermath of the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX win (hat tip to Jeff McLane).

It’s already been fun to see Barkley terrorize the New York Giants. Could you imagine Parsons getting to wreak havoc on the Cowboys as a member of the Eagles? And in the NFL Kickoff Game specifically?

Would’ve been pretty cool.

But, alas, not meant to be. Parsons is now a Packer.

Should Parsons become available again at some point down the road, perhaps Roseman checks in again. The Eagles will have a more realistic chance at acquiring him since they won’t have to pry him away from an NFC East foe. But the Packers probably won’t be nearly as dumb as Dallas was to move him.

With Parsons out of the picture, are the Eagles focused on adding another potential star? Impossible to rule out with Howie at the helm.

Community question: Assuming the Cowboys would’ve been willing to trade with the Eagles, what’s the most you would have given up to get Parsons? Scroll down and let us know in the comments.
