Long ago, Chris Manhertz was a bruising power forward for the Canisius College basketball team. Even longer ago than that, the editor of this website was a jump-shooting forward who captained his high school basketball team.
So, what better way to bring some different content, and give a different look at Manhertz, than to rust off my jump shot and shoot a few baskets? Manhertz and I did that Wednesday in the field house at Quest Diagnostics Training Center.
I hope you enjoy the results of our — mostly — light-hearted banter.
A few nuggets from Manhertz:
- Asked for a scouting report on Manhertz the basketball player, he said he was a “garbage man” teammates loved and opponents hated.
- Even in his 11th year in the NFL, Manhertz said there is a different feeling about Week 1.
- The Giants’ roster that lists him at 235 pounds? That’s, umm, not right. He is, as I thought, quite a bit bigger than that.
- Manhertz goes deep to explain the longest pass reception of his career, a 50-yarder while with the Carolina Panthers.
- A teammate of Russell Wilson’s in Denver, Manhertz gives some thoughts on the veteran quarterback.
NOTE: I know that the video isn’t perfect and that our conversation — at times — is inaudible. I apologize for that. This is the first time I have done anything like this, and I learned a few lessons about positioning the equipment that will help if we are able to do more of these. There are, incidentally, a number of players who have expressed interest. So, we will see if we can schedule a few more.
I hope you enjoy the video.
