It’s a new year, and Opening Odds is back in action. The Indianapolis Colts are set to square off against the Miami Dolphins in a week one matchup. These two teams met at Lucas Oil last year in which the Colts got the win. Both teams will have a different look mainly because the man under center for both won’t be the same as the last meeting. FanDuel Sportsbook is giving the Colts some early season love as they open as 1.5 favorites. The Colts may have the advantage with the oddsmakers, but they are under a lot of pressure as they try to break their eleven year winless streak.
The money line sits at -116 with the over/under at 46.5.
The storyline is well known for the Colts at this point. Another year, another quarterback. Daniel Jones takes over after beating Anthony Richardson for the starting role. He is looking to move the ball more consistently and with more accuracy than his predecessor. New faces will make their debut as eyes will be on rookie Tyler Warren and the revamped secondary who will have their hands full trying to contain Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa. The full go and healthy defensive line should have a strong say in this contest as well.
Speaking of Hill, it has been a long offseason for him. After refusing to play in the second half of the Dolphins week 18 game, Hill was passed over as a captain. He will be working hard to get back into the good graces of his coaches and earn the trust of his teammates. Tagovailoa will be suiting up this time as he missed the last meeting in 2024. He will be an upgrade over Tyler Huntley who struggled mightily in Indy. The Dolphins have to get out to a hot start to help keep pace against the Bills in the AFC East.
The start of a new season is full of excitement. Favorites can falter and dark horses can emerge. It all has to start somewhere. The Colts have to hope they can avoid another week one let down as fans can’t take much more of it. They are the favorite on paper. They just have to act like it on the field.
