It’s almost time for the start of the 2025 NFL season as the Las Vegas Raiders will open the slate Sunday at the New England Patriots. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m..
Let’s take a quick look at the Patriots:
Record:
The Patriots are 0-0. They went 4-13 (same as the Raiders) and finished last in the AFC East.
New era:
While Pete Carroll is beginning his Raiders’ tenure, the Patriots are also starting the season with a new coach. Former Patriots’ star linebacker Mike Vrabel takes over for the fired Jerod Mayo. Like in Las Vegas, there is a lot of excitement in New England about the new leadership;
A familiar face:
Josh McDaniels is starting his third stint as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator. This is first time back in coaching after being fired as the Raiders’ head coach on October 31, 2023 after an ugly 25-game stint in Las Vegas. He went 9-16 as the Raiders’ head coach.
Last meeting:
McDaniels and the Raiders beat New England 21-17 on October 15, 2023 in Las Vegas. It was McDaniels’ final victory with the Raiders. They have beaten New England in two straight games after the Patriots had a six-game winning streak in the series, spanning 2005-20.
