Nick Sirianni says Eagles players won’t be watching the Super Bowl LIX banner unveiling

The Philadelphia Eagles and their fans have been able to enjoy all the commemoration comes with winning a Super Bowl, such as the parade up Broad Street and the championship rings (with wings) being revealed.

But the last big celebration of the 2024 Eagles prior to this upcoming season is one that the 2025 Eagles will not be partaking in prior to their Thursday night game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Nick Sirianni indicated that players will not be on the field for the team’s pregame ceremony where their Super Bowl LIX is unveiled.*

The following exchange is from his Tuesday morning press conference:

Q: Nick, you guys have emphasized moving on from last year. The last [Eagles Super Bowl] banner night in 2018, it’s famous that the fans booed the Eagles at halftime because they weren’t happy with how the way things were going, albeit it was banner night. How do you feel about the fact that even though it is banner night for you guys, the fans will have the standard of performing and winning at a high level?

NICK SIRIANNI: Yeah, I didn’t know it was banner night. We won’t be out [on the field] for that.

I don’t know if I believe that Sirianni had zero idea that the Eagles are unveiling a Super Bowl banner that night.

Regardless, him and his players not being on the field for that moment comes as no surprise since:

  1. The 2018 Eagles also weren’t on the field for the Super Bowl LII banner unveiling. (You can see from this video that their sideline is empty before the camera pans to the banner.)
  2. The 2025 Eagles have been very outspoken about how it’s a new season and the 2024 Eagles are behind them.

Time will tell if the Eagles being so locked in on turning the page is actually helpful or not.

Getting back to the Super Bowl banner itself, which will certainly be enjoyed by the fans, the early indication is that it’ll look pretty similar to the 2017 version. As a reminder:

And here’s a leaked glimpse at the new one from Crossing Broad’s Kyle Pagan (semi-spoiler alert):

*I’ve been guilty of this as well but it’s funny how it gets talked about as a Super Bowl “raising” when the banner is already raised prior to the game. It’s really a Super Bowl unveiling.
