Vikings announce jersey number changes for several players

WR Myles Price: 4 (was 31)

CB Dwight McGlothern Jr: 6 (was 29)

CB Jeff Okudah: 8 (was 21)

TE Ben Yurosek: 85 (was 48)

DT Javon Hargrave: 97 (was 98)

OLB Bo Richter: 98 (was 54)

This site has to be one of the worst when it comes to headlines. They are talking about Okudah changing his jersey number but the headline could lead folks to click to see it is a big nothing burger. These folks are an embarassment.
Vikings Announce Major Change for Former No. 3 Pick After QB Move

Ahead of the season starting, though, Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report put together his list of the most overpaid players in the NFL, and Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson made the list.

“Hockenson has scored just 23 times in his six-year NFL run,” Gagnon writes. “He’s gone over 750 yards just twice and has never hit the 1,000-yard plateau, and injuries have again been a factor this offseason for a guy who just hasn’t been consistently durable or a regular playmaker in his career. Meanwhile, the Vikings owe him $16.6 million in 2025, $21.4 million in 2026 and $23.4 million in 2027.”

Note: Hard to argue.

“I think he’s a great quarterback. I don’t think he gets enough credit athletically, based on the offense that he played in at Michigan.” Culpepper said.

“I got a chance to be around him for about three weeks last month and I’ll tell you I was blown away with his accuracy, his ball placement and just the zip he has on his passes. I was very impressed, and his footwork is very, very good. So he’s primed to have a great year and I’m pulling for him.”

“In the time I was around him, I noticed that he has that ‘it factor’ as a leader. He’s well respected, because he’s earned the respect of his teammates through the hard work and dedication that he’s put into getting himself ready.”

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson missed the first seven games of the 2024 season while coming off a gruesome knee injury. It took some time to get into a groove last year, but he hopes another season removed from the injury will allow a fast start in 2025.

“I was a step slower than I wanted to be, and I knew that after a couple games,” he said, via The Minnesota Star Tribune. “Toward the end of the year, I got more comfortable, and I got back to where I wanted to be.”

Hockenson’s participation this offseason should aid his rapport with first-year starter J.J. McCarthy. The veteran tight end said he’s constantly in communication with his QB — letting him know he can be trusted to be at the right spot, even if the play breaks down.

“We want you here at a spot within a certain timing,” Hockenson said of the Vikings offense, “but on the other hand, J.J. is a playmaker. (Kevin) O’Connell wants us to get open.”

“J.J. is a lot like Staff and a little like Kirk,” Hockenson said. “Just depends on the routes and what we’re doing. ‘I want you here at this time, but on the same hand I want you to get open. I’m going to trust you.’”

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

  • No discussion of politics or religion
  • No feeding of the trolls
  • Leave the gender hatred at the door
  • Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
  • Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
  • No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
  • If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
  • While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm
