The Minnesota Vikings have dealt with some of the issues on the wide receiver depth chart over the past couple of days, and now it sounds like they could have another important member of that group back when they open their season in Chicago a week from Monday.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN is reporting that the Vikings are optimistic that wide receiver Jalen Nailor will be available for them on Monday night after having a procedure on his hand during training camp.
Nailor suffered the injury during camp and had the procedure done in the hopes that he would be able to play in the opener. Nobody has put any specifics out there about exactly what the nature of his injury was, but whatever it was it seems that he’s on track to play.
Now in the final year of his rookie contract, Nailor is going to take advantage of his opportunities while he can. With Adam Thielen back in the fold for the Vikings, he’s currently the team’s third wide receiver and will drop down to fourth when Jordan Addison has completed his three-game suspension. He’s coming off of the best season of his career in 2024, when he caught 28 passes for 414 yards and six touchdowns. Unfortunately for him, barring an injury to one of the players above him on the depth chart, he’s likely going to see significantly fewer opportunities than he did in 2024.
If Nailor is unable to go, it will be interesting to see who the Vikings plug into the WR3 spot behind Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. It could fall to rookie Tai Felton, or the team could bring Lucky Jackson, Jeshaun Jones, or Tim Jones up from the practice squad.
Here’s hoping that the Vikings will have Nailor available on Monday night for this year’s season opener.
