The Philadelphia Eagles won’t issue their first official Week 1 injury report until Monday afternoon but there were multiple updates to be gleaned from the media-attended portion of Sunday’s practice. Let’s sort through the news on a player-by-player basis.

LANDON DICKERSON

Dickerson returned to practice on Wednesday, which already seemed like a good sign for his chances of starting against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.

Now there are even more positive updates on the starting left guard’s status:

There was some fear that the Eagles lost Dickerson for the season when he carted off with a knee injury back on August 10. Now it looks like he won’t even miss a game.

Of course, it remains to be seen if Dickerson’s performance will be hampered and/or he’ll struggle to stay on the field. But having a less than 100% Dickerson beats the scenario where he can’t play at all.

ANDREW MUKUBA

For the first time since suffering a hamstring injury on August 19, Mukuba returned to practice.

It’s not yet clear if Mukuba was a full participant. It’s quite possible the Eagles are easing the rookie back in.

If healthy, Mukuba might start at safety in Week 1. At least, it looked like he was on track to do so prior to getting hurt.

It’s possible Sydney Brown gets the nod instead. But even if Mukuba isn’t starting against the Cowboys, it’s entirely possible — if not outright likely — that he overtakes Brown at some point this season.

TANNER MCKEE

McKee was not a full participant in Sunday’s practice. It’s looking like he won’t be ready to back up Jalen Hurts in Week 1.

Assuming that’s the case, Sam Howell will be QB2 on Thursday night. The Eagles obviously hope he doesn’t have to play (unless the Birds beat the Cowboys so badly that Philly pulls their starters) but he’s an experienced option if called upon.

Not to get too in the weeds on the Eagles’ third quarterback situation … but, actually, to do exactly that … it’s not yet clear how the team will handle that scenario. The Eagles could just ride with Hurts and Howell as their top two with an undetermined position player moonlighting at QB if that unlikely disaster scenario unfolds. Otherwise, they could temporarily elevate Kyle McCord from the practice squad and keep him active to be QB3. McCord is not eligible to play under the emergency third quarterback rule if the Eagles temporarily elevate him and then mark him inactive on game day.

The other problem with temporarily elevating McCord is that it limits the Eagles to just one other temporary elevation when it currently looks like they could use two (Marcus Epps and Britain Covey).
