Wreaking havoc in the NFL was never a dream for Abdul Carter. It was always the plan | The Athletic
“That’s what he believes in. He’s doing it for the utmost respect,” Penn State defensive line coach Deion Barnes said. “He’s respectful of the legends. He just feels like he’s just setting a goal. … (People shouldn’t be) offended because he’s trying to set his goal that high to be remembered forever.”
This is who Abdul Carter is. This is who he’s always been.

We know. Rarely is anything of great quality and lasting excellence assembled overnight.
We get it. But it has been four years now, and the vision the Giants’ front office put forth for roster construction is as far along as it ought to be.
Quarterback Kryptonite: Biggest weaknesses for every NFL starting QB | PFF
New York Giants: Russell Wilson. Biggest Weakness: Generating positive plays
Wilson produced a positive play last season at the lowest rate (19.6%) of the 32 projected starting quarterbacks in 2025. While he can still unleash a beauty of a big-time throw (6.1%, tied for fifth in the NFL), living off the big play isn’t a winning recipe in the NFL.
Wilson’s big-time throw rate last season tied with Lamar Jackson, but Jackson earned a positive grade are a rate nearly 12 percentage points higher. Wilson’s NFL days are likely numbered, especially when his team just threw a dart at a quarterback in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
“I think the biggest thing we’ll bring is tough-nose football, physical, offense, defense, special teams, a team that believes in each other, ultimately,” said Wilson. “And that’s really all that matters, that we believe in each other. No matter how much praise we get, how much criticism people try to say beforehand or whatever it may be, it’s just we’re in the midst of it right now, and we have unbelievable belief in our locker room, what we’re capable of. Now we have to go do it, and just play one game at a time.”
10 things we learned from 2025 NFL preseason: Giants’ succession plan unfolding | CBSSports.com
7. The Giants’ succession plan is unfolding quickly. This is the polar opposite of what’s happening in New Orleans: The Giants may be perpetual rebuilders, but New York faithful at least have a beacon of hope on which to affix their eyes. We speak of none other than Jaxson Dart, a relatively maligned first-round pick thanks to the Giants’ decision to pass on Shedeur Sanders (like 31 other clubs until the fifth round). Dart has pretty clearly been the most impressive rookie gunslinger of his class, at least according to preseason numbers and eye tests. Is he perfect? No. Is he sharp and gifted? It appears so. Whether it was the perfectly placed bomb in his debut or the 13 straight completions to end his finale, he’s primed to push the slowing Russell Wilson for starting reps sooner rather than later.

CB Paulson Adebo. The Giants’ cornerbacks struggled last season: 2023 first-round pick Deonte Banks has flashed, but he failed to put together consistent weeks of strong coverage; and 2024 rookie slot Dru Phillips excels as a tackler and blitzer but can struggle to produce on the football. They need Adebo, whom they paid in free agency despite a major leg injury, to step up as a CB1. They can hide Banks from the toughest matchups and get safety help his way; they can get Phillips up onto the line of scrimmage, pressing across the board and buying time for that pass rush to arrive.
The past 1½ seasons of Adebo were CB1-caliber — seven picks and 28 passes defensed for only two touchdowns surrendered — but he must be healthy.
