When should the Giants start Jaxson Dart? ‘This is going to be a pretty good QB’ | FOX Sports
The plan to develop the 22-year-old Dart into the Giants’ next great franchise quarterback might be the biggest priority for Daboll and his staff. And the early returns on their project have been outstanding. Dart was electric in New York’s three preseason games, completing 68.1% of his passes (32 of 47) for 372 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. That’s a 113.08 passer rating. He also ran for 52 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
Dart checked every box that talent evaluators look for in a quarterback. He showed patience and poise in the pocket. He backed up his obvious arm strength with accuracy. He made smart decisions. He wasn’t afraid to throw passes into tight windows. And he made plays with his legs.
Given how well Jaxson Dart played this preseason, it’s only a matter of time before the Giants are forced to start him at quarterback. This past week, the first-round pick produced the second-highest-graded passing performance of the preseason (93.0), powered by a trio of big-time throws.
Ex-NFL GM: Starting Russell Wilson doesn’t give the Giants ‘the best chance to win’ | NJ.com
“Jaxson Dart, how soon does he start? If it was up to me, it would have been three months ago,” Mike Tannenbaum said Tuesday on SportsCenter. “He has outplayed Russell Wilson. He is the best quarterback on the New York Giants. Every game he doesn’t start is, to me, not giving them the best chance to win. He has played with energy. He’s played with enthusiasm. Knows what to do. I think he should start.”
NFL preseason rookie winners: Which 2025 draft first-rounders thrived in August? | The Athletic
Abdul Carter, edge, New York Giants (No. 3). Carter’s work against the run has been a bit up and down, but that’s not really shocking as he’s still growing into the position. Even with that, though, Carter has still flashed an ability to be a problem on any down. He had pressures on two of his first three preseason reps — including one while aligned over a guard — and picked up a combined four pressures over his first two games. His first step is going to be a problem for opposing tackles (and guards).
Jaxson Dart, QB, New York Giants (No. 25). The Giants have maintained their stance that Russell Wilson is their starter. He may not have much margin for error, however, because Dart has looked great. The rookie threw a touchdown pass in each of New York’s three preseason games, finishing the August slate with a QB rating of 113.1.
He’s shown confidence over the middle, gotten rid of the ball quickly and displayed an ability to process quickly. He looks ready to start, and — at some point this year — we may see it.
NFL preseason winners and losers: Rookies break out | CBSSports.com
Winner: Jaxson Dart. Dart finished the preseason 32 of 47 for 372 yards and three scores. He wasn’t intercepted and he took only two sacks. The Giants kept things simple for him and he routinely threw the ball short (14 of his 47 passes were targeted to players behind the line of scrimmage) but all you can ask of a quarterback is to do well with what you put on his plate, and Dart did exactly that.

NY Giants OL Jon Runyan Urges Patience with Evan Neal’s Move to Guard | SI.com
“Each position is like a different island,” Runyan explained. “Center, you have to be able to work both sides, left and right. Guard is, from a tackle’s mindset, a different mentality. With tackle, you can get a lot deeper, run the defensive end up the field, and by around ten yards. With guard, you’ve got to square guys up, dig in the ground and fight, and not get pushed back into the quarterback.”
[Neal’s] been doing a good job,” Runyan continued. “I’m looking forward to him developing and keep getting there. There definitely is something there, and I’m excited to see him keep working at it.”

4. New York Giants Projected record: 5-12
Success for them is being a seven-win version of last year’s Broncos. It’s like, ‘OK, we can do something with this?’ And then the defense proves it’s a really good pass rush and something to build on. Obviously, that’s a little bit different because Sean Payton had already been there. And in this case, seven wins probably gets Brian Daboll fired. But then you can go out and hire whoever you think your Sean Payton is going to be. — Derrik Klassen, “The Athletic Football Show”
NFL Preseason Week 3 rookie report card: Mason Graham, Jayden Higgins among seven A grades | NFL.com
DL Darius Alexander B+. Alexander showed he’s deserving of a role in the Giants’ defensive line rotation, holding his ground against single blocks and double teams. On the Patriots’ first play, the third-round pick stood up the right tackle to force the running back to change his gap. Later, he pushed the right guard into the backfield and swallowed the running back for a tackle for loss. Alexander didn’t win off the snap as a pass rusher, but he created a push and it looked like he was held early in the second quarter when he was ripped to the ground after winning with his hands.
