On Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles held their first practice following Tuesday’s roster cuts down to 53 players.
While the team is not yet required to issue an official injury report (the first one will be revealed on Monday, September 2), there are multiple updates that were gleaned from the brief media-attended portion of Wednesday’s practice.
The good news
A.J. Brown (hamstring), Landon Dickerson (knee), DeVonta Smith (groin), and Jordan Mailata (concussion) all returned to practice after being absent for the team’s last session one week ago.
Brown was seen moving well during the Eagles’ pregame warmups ahead of the preseason finale, so, this development comes as no major surprise. Still, the confirmation is good since Brown missed a large portion of training camp due to his hamstring injury.
Dickerson being able to practice is both surprising and encouraging as it relates to him being able to play against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. Guessing he was not a full participant in practice but that he was participating at all is impressive.
That Nick Sirianni was drawing attention to Dickerson might also be a good sign?
Andrew Mukuba (hamstring) did not practice. The fact that the Eagles went down to three safeties (plus Cooper DeJean) by waiving Tristin McCollum seems to suggest that Mukuba’s injury isn’t a major deal. But he’s still not practicing after getting injured last Tuesday. And so it looks like it’ll be Sydney Brown starting in Week 1.
Tanner McKee (fractured thumb) was moving around at practice but he was not seen holding a football. It’s looking like Sam Howell will be QB2 behind Jalen Hurts in Week 1. McKee might be able to return in Week 2 or Week 3.
Joshua Uche (groin) was seen doing some rehab work on a side field. He might be in danger of missing Week 1.
The unclear
Kelee Ringo (quad) did not practice last Wednesday. It wasn’t made clear if he was practicing today.
