The Philadelphia Eagles claimed interior offensive lineman Willie Lampkin off waivers from the Los Angeles Rams, according to an official NFL transaction announcement.
This is an intriguing addition for the Birds.
Standing just under 5’11” and weighing 279 pounds, Lampkin is clearly undersized:
Poor measurables contributed to Lampkin not being picked in the 2025 NFL Draft. He had to settle for signing with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted rookie free agent.
This despite the fact that multiple draft analysts were intrigued by Lampkin’s college tape.
5-year college starter between two programs who has a novel body type; he’s uniquely small for the offensive line and is a true outlier because of that … but damnit he’s a good player. He’s athletic, extremely tough, smart, versatile and stronger than you’d think. He’s probably limited to center in the NFL, and only so many teams will feature a center at his size, but I think there’s enough there for him to compete in the NFL. He did not look overmatched in the ACC and he had a good week in Mobile vs top competition. If it doesn’t work out he could move to FB/TE, but I think he can be a starting center in the right situation.
Check out this pre-draft scouting report from NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein as well:
When it comes to the three phases of a run block (positioning/sustain/finish), Lampkin has the best tape I’ve studied of any prospect in the 2025 draft. He’s tremendously quick and athletic to beat defenders to the spot laterally or to climb and connect in space. He plays with excellent hand placement, leverage and footwork to sustain blocks. He uses that stickiness to finish blocks, too. He’s sound in pass protection but will give way to size and length from time to time. Unfortunately, he falls far below NFL size standards, but he’s too good a football player to ignore. Smart teams should consider using Lampkin as a fullback who can get into space and stick to his block while offering position flexibility as an emergency backup at center. Whether he’s drafted or not, Lampkin has NFL-caliber talent.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Eagles view Lampkin. Seems like a good player to enroll at Jeff Stoutland University.
I mean, look at this:
Lampkin has experience at both guard and center.
His college football snap counts:
2020 (Coastal Carolina) — LG 793
2021 (Coastal Carolina) — LG 778
2022 (Coastal Carolina) — C 884
2023 (North Carolina) — LG 141, C 53, RG 623
2024 (North Carolina) — RG 851
His preseason snap counts with the Rams:
2025 — LG 13, C 36
Of course, Lampkin doesn’t figure to play much — if at all — in 2025. It doesn’t seem like he’s currently ready to suit up at all since the Rams waived him with an injury designation. But the Eagles figure to stash him away at the bottom of their roster with the hope that he can be a useful player for them in the future.
