The Cincinnati Bengals wrapped up their preseason on Saturday, and rookie linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. was not on the field. Knight was held out of Thursday’s practice with a “lower extremity” injury as well. With the season opener just two weeks away and Knight expected to play a big role in the defense, that could be a cause for concern.
In a game where no starters played, Head Coach Zac Taylor said that had Saturday’s action been a real game, Knight would have suited up.
That is good news about the rookie linebacker who was essentially listed as a day one starter in Al Golden’s reshaped defense. Oren Burks was getting reps with the first team in Knight’s absence, so the Bengals do have some experienced depth behind him.
Thankfully, the Bengals appear to have survived the preseason and training camp without any major injuries, but there are a few players to keep an eye on when they return to the practice field.
This time, the preparation will be for a game that matters.
