Jaguars vs. Dolphins: 3 stars as Miami wins preseason finale

The Miami Dolphins beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 14-6 on Saturday night, bringing the 2025 preseason to a close and setting up the team for their regular-season opener in two weeks. The game featured many of the starters getting about a quarter’s worth of action before heading to the bench and letting the depth players, who are fighting for a roster spot ahead of Tuesday’s cut deadline, take over for much of the game.

The game was not a perfect one for the Dolphins, especially without kicker Jason Sanders who seemed to suffer an injury before kickoff leaving punter Jake Bailey to attempt place kicks and the team to rely on two-point conversion attempts after touchdowns.

While there are many things to address, and hopefully game planning and a full playbook will help with some of those issues, there were also standouts in the game. Who were the three stars of the game?

First Star

Malik Washington, wide receiver

3 receptions, 41 yards, 1 touchdown

2 punt returns, 13.5 yards average

Washington played just 14 offensive snaps, but looked like an absolute menace on the field. When Tyreek Hill returns to the field, the Dolphins are going to be able to throw Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Washington at opposing secondaries, and that seems almost unfair.

Almost.

Second Star

Ollie Gordon II, running back

8 carries, 43 yards

Miami’s starting offense looked out of rhythm for much of its time on the field, but Gordon took his opportunity with the first team (and continuing to play as the starters were pulled) and made the most of it. He ran hard, showed good speed, and made a strong case to be the number two running back behind De’Von Achane – and even steal some of Achane’s carries.

Third Star

Chop Robinson, linebacker

1 sack, 2 quarterback hits

This almost read Robinson, Bradley Chubb, and Jaelan Phillips because Miami’s top three edge rushers came to play on Saturday, but since it is the first edition of the three-stars series, sticking to one player here seemed appropriate. Robinson made his impact the first snap of the game, bursting through the line of scrimmage and sacking quarterback John Wolford for a nine-yard loss. Chubb and Phillips split a sack later in the game, but Robinson set the defensive tone on that first play.
