The Los Angeles Rams wrapped up their final preseason game of the 2025 campaign, and while LA lost to the Cleveland Browns 17-19, some of the team’s young players were still able to standout among the many trying to make the 53-man roster. It’s clear that guys like second round pick TE Terrance Ferguson and fourth round pick RB Jarquez Hunter are locks to make the roster based on their solid play but also their draft position, however, Los Angeles has been also able to find some diamonds in the rough through undrafted free agent signings in the past and may have again this year.
Shaun Dolac – LB
This feels like an obvious choice at this point, and it feels like that because Dolac has played so well during his time on the field. The undrafted rookie out of the University of Buffalo amassed 14 total tackles in two games and showed a clear understanding of the Rams defense. Dolac was not given any snaps in the team’s final preseason game, which would normally be a bad thing for an undrafted player, but in Dolac’s case it’s because he was too busy getting first team reps in practice this week.
McVay commented on Dolac’s absence after the final preseason matchup, saying it was probably “a good sign for him”.
“We’ll continue to evaluate, but he made his presence felt on [special] teams,” McVay said. “I think he’s played really well for those inside ‘backers. He’s got a good understanding of what we’re trying to get done, the intent of things. Been really pleased with him.”
You don’t have to look too far to find a perfect comparison for Dolac’s upward trajectory this preseason. LB Omar Speights was an undrafted preseason superstar last year for LA, becoming arguably the team’s best inside linebacker in 2024 with 67 total tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. Speights now goes into 2025 expected to be one of the team’s starting linebackers, showing the Rams don’t care where you’re drafted, if you can play, they’ll put you on the field.
CB – Cam Lampkin
Unlike Dolac, this is Lampkin’s second year in the Rams defensive back room after joining the team as an undrafted player last season. Lampkin has been all over the field for Los Angeles, jumping off the screen with some monster hits, and seems to have taken a major step forward in his development.
Lampkin finishes his preseason effort with 10 total tackles, one pass defended and one interception. The Rams secondary is one of the most questionable position groups on the team, so any success found at that position is one to take note of. While Lampkin is probably not supplanting anyone in a starting role right now, he could find himself in a rotation late in the season if he continues to develop like he has.
Los Angeles currently carries 10 corners so a good chunk of them will probably be released or signed to the practice squad during the team’s efforts to get their 53-man roster intact. Darious Williams, Ahkello Witherspoon, Emmanuel Forbes Jr. and Cobie Durant are all locks to make the team. That leaves probably two more corner spots open, and I believe Lampkin could be in consideration for one of them.
WR – Brennan Presley
Admittedly, this is probably the player with the hardest chance to make the roster out of the three listed here. The Rams are just so deep at wide receiver, but the fact that Presley is even being mentioned to make the roster despite that tells you how well he’s played this preseason.
Through three games Presley has 11 catches for 164 yards and a receiving touchdown, leading the Rams in all three categories. He is also ranked fourth in the entire league for yards and seventh in the league for receptions. It’s not just the stats that stand out for Presley, he has come up big in clutch moments. Facing a 4th and 10, down six points, with only :19 seconds left against the Los Angeles Chargers, Presley came up with a contested 40-yard hail mary to set LA up for the game winning score on the next play.
Presley is a bit undersized at just 5’8” but his speed and ability to separate should, at a minimum, earn him a practice squad spot with the team. That said, I believe he could sneak onto a 53-man roster after his very impressive preseason, so the Rams may have to put him on their active roster if they want to keep him.
