The Recap: Coin toss was a look into the future | Giants.com
Moments before Thursday’s preseason finale, a 42-10 victory over the Patriots that capped an undefeated 3-0 slate, the head coach surprised outside linebacker Abdul Carter and quarterback Jaxson Dart with the news. The third and 25th overall draft picks would be representing the team as gameday captains. For Dart, it was another test in his development plan, similar to how he was thrown in cold to Saturday’s game against the Jets for one play during a Russell Wilson-led drive.
“I put him out there for the coin toss today and [Dart’s] running up to me, ‘What do you want me to do again? I’ve never done this before,’” Daboll recalled after the game…Abdul was less,” Daboll said. “I usually have the quarterback go out there and decide what we’re going to do. He was like, ‘Wait a minute, So, we’re going to take the ball, but what if they defer, which way do you want me to kick?’ He was out there warming up and coming over to me, I’m like, ‘What?’ And he’s got like two questions. And I’m like, ‘Don’t worry about that. Just let’s go.’ But I wanted him to think about what it would be like one day.”

If things go according to plan, Dart’s fumble, which was negated by a defensive holding, will be the last meaningful snap he plays this year, absent mop-up duty. Russell Wilson is the team’s starter. The Giants believe they’re capable of playing winning football with him as the rookie sits and develops like Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers.
But seldom do things go according to plan and Dart, this summer, has done nothing to slow the cries to get him in the lineup. He began the offseason program as the third quarterback behind Jameis Winston. He quickly jumped him by minicamp. In training camp, he took all the second-team reps. By the end, he was stealing a few from Wilson, too.
2025 NFL offensive rookies: Best and worst case for 28 players | NFL.com
Best-case scenario: Dart proves to Brian Daboll that he gives the Giants the best chance to win and unseats Russell Wilson as the starter relatively early in the season. The offensive line exceeds expectations, while Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Cam Skattebo form a dynamic 1-2 punch in the ground game. Oh, and Malik Nabers continues to light the world on fire. Dart is put in manageable positions and he’s further along as a decision-maker than he showed at Ole Miss.
Projected stats: 2,389 passing yards, 14 TDs, 9 INTs; 253 rushing yards, 2 TDs.

Round 5 (No. 154): Marcus Mbow, OT. Perhaps the biggest surprise of this draft class, Mbow has been impressive this summer while primarily playing right tackle. He could work his way into the swing tackle spot.
Giants stock report: Jaxson Dart did all he could to ignite optimism for future | The Athletic
CB Art Green. While the cornerback 2 role remains TBD, Green is taking advantage of extended opportunities to play. He finished Thursday with five tackles, second most on the team behind linebacker K.J. Cloyd (six). On one series where the Patriots went three-and-out, Green made all three tackles before the punt.
As a back-of-the-roster player, Green also has to have value on special teams, and he does, giving the Giants a solid gunner in punt coverage. Green became a core special teamer for New York after being promoted from the practice squad in Week 10 last season.
Jalin Hyatt, battling for roster spot, ‘disappointed’ with final Giants audition despite TD | New York Post
“It felt good [to score] … but disappointed in my performance,” said Hyatt, who finished with three catches for 38 yards on six targets. “Felt like I could’ve made more plays out there. It wasn’t the DBs at all. Both of them were beautiful [passes]. I left some plays out there that I think the coaching staff understands I can make, but I have to be more consistent. That’s the biggest thing for me.”

Giants pull off rare preseason feat that’s produced 2 Super Bowl champs, 6 playoff teams over past 16 years | CBSSports.com
The Giants are the eighth team since 2009 to finish a preseason with a point differential of +60 or more, and of the seven previous teams, SIX of them made the playoffs, including two teams that went on to win the Super Bowl.
Ranking Every NFL Offense for 2025 | The Ringer
30 New York Giants. One of my favorite nuggets of the offseason: The Giants are returning 10 of 11 of their starters on offense, despite the fact that they finished 29th in EPA per drive last year. They believe the quarterback was the problem. And now for the solution: Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Jaxson Dart. Who’s excited?
The hardest thing to predict in the NFL is whether a rookie quarterback will be good. If the Giants have a season out of nowhere and surprise us, it’ll likely be because Dart gets to play and impresses. Receiver Malik Nabers is terrific, but the Giants’ offensive line is once again a question mark. I just have a hard time seeing much of a difference from last year with this group.
One reason for optimism, one reason for pessimism for every NFL team | SB Nation
New York Giants Optimism: Abdul Carter looks like a bonafide NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate and Jaxson Dart has impressed so far this preseason.
Pessimism: The Giants have one of the league’s toughest schedules, including an opening stretch that sees them open at Washington and at Dallas before coming home for games against the Chiefs and the Chargers. On paper at least, their only likely win before Halloween comes in Week 5 against the Saints. That is … rough.
