Eagles News: Did Kyle McCord do enough to make the roster?

Roob’s Eagles Observations: Jakorian Bennett helps himself in cornerback battle – NBCSP

Kyle McCord had a few nice throws, notably an 11-yard pickup to Ben VanSumeren on a blitz, a 19-yarder to tight end Kylen Granson and a 14-yarder to new acquisition John Metchie III. But let’s be honest. McCord is not ready. He had one bad interception – a deep ball down the right sideline to Darius Cooper, who was draped in double coverage – and threw three other passes that could have or should have been picked off. Final stats: 15-for-35 for 136 yards with no TDs, one INT and a 42.1 passer rating. Final stats for the preseason: 24-for-56 for 191 yards, one TD, two INTs and a 43.1 passer rating. McCord, who led the BCS in passing yards and touchdowns last year at Syracuse, is a 22-year-old rookie 6th-round pick and there are going to be ups and downs for any rookie QB who doesn’t get many reps in practice. But the downs are drastically out-numbering the ups, and it’s a little scary right now because Tanner McKee has been out since Monday with a finger injury and we don’t know how serious it is, opening day is 13 days away, and the thought of McCord having to play in a meaningful regular-season game is scary. Now, most likely McCord won’t have to play. But I can’t imagine Nick Sirianni and Howie Roseman are thrilled about going into a season with an erratic rookie 6th-round pick as the No. 3. Dorian Thompson-Robinson has been significantly worse than McCord, and he didn’t even play Friday night, so he’s certainly not the solution. I don’t know how you’re going to find a quarterback on the street who’s better suited to playing now in this offense than McCord. So I’m not sure the Eagles have options here. Not an ideal situation.

Eagles vs. Jets preseason game: 16 winners, 6 losers, and 10 IDKs – BGN

KYLE MCCORD: The numbers: 15/35 (42.9% completion), 136 yards (3.9 average), 0 TD, 1 INT, 42.1 passer rating. Not pretty. In fairness to McCord, he did deal at least five drops by his teammates. Then again, he also benefited from a dropped pick by the Jets at one point. The interception that counted was a curious decision to throw to Darius Cooper, who was bracketed by a cornerback and safety. McCord hasn’t played well enough to definitely be the Eagles’ third quarterback. The team should be scouring other QB3 options. If they can’t find one they like than McCord, maybe they keep him. Or maybe they only go with just two quarterbacks on the 53? But probably not if McKee is banged up? Regardless, McCord is not ready to play meaningful snaps for the Eagles in 2025.

Eagles preseason finale: Kyle McCord stumbles, Parry Nickerson states his case and 5 thoughts ahead of cutdown day – PHLY

Matt Pryor’s exclusion from the preseason finale likely affirms that the veteran offensive lineman has done enough to be a key reserve going into the regular season. And considering Kendall Lamm’s apparent struggles at left tackle in the first quarter, Pryor has a real chance to be the first guy off the bench at multiple positions come Week 1. Drew Kendall should quell some concerns about the interior offensive line. The fifth-round rookie played at both center and guard against the Jets and was one of the first linemen to get the rest of the night off in the second quarter, indicative of Kendall’s inside track to a reserve role on gameday. It’s a bit of a surprise that he’s so quickly overtaken Trevor Keegan and Kenyon Green based off where each player entered this training camp positioned on the presumptive depth chart, but Kendall has looked much better than both all summer. When it comes to the backup swing tackle role, it’s hard to remember a season when the Eagles had such a question mark. It’s even harder to see how they can address the apparent lack of depth in the coming weeks. Call it a champagne problem, but the Eagles’ strength down the depth chart at offensive line has been instructive to their success and how they operate offensively. This year, those guys may be a liability.

NFL Preseason Week 3 Game Recap: Philadelphia Eagles 19, New York Jets 17 – PFF

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Eagles cornerback Parry Nickerson made the most of his coverage snaps, allowing just 6 yards on four targets while picking off a pass and finishing with a 16.7 passer rating allowed.

2025 NFL preseason, Week 3: What We Learned from Friday’s games – NFL.com

Eagles kick tires on newest wide receiver. John Metchie III saw a solid amount of playing time just five days after his arrival from Houston. The former second-round pick hauled in a 14-yard pass on Philadelphia’s first play from scrimmage, fending off a Jets defender at the end of comeback route near the sideline. Metchie was targeted again soon after on a similar route, but Kyle McCord’s pass would’ve been too high for most receivers. The Eagles lined up Metchie on the outside and in the slot across 17 total snaps, putting him in motion a couple times to try to create more opportunity, but his debut ended with the one grab on two targets. Philly is largely set at receiver but an issue of depth was raised following a season-ending injury to Johnny Wilson. Metchie portends to fill that void and the Eagles got a good look at their trade acquisition with the season opener less than two weeks away.

Eagles undrafted star rookie ‘would love’ to make 53-man roster – NJ.com

Darius Cooper has put in the work. Now, the Philadelphia Eagles’ unexpected star of the preseason will have to sit back and wait. Cooper, the undrafted rookie wide receiver from Tarleton State, is on the 53-man roster bubble. Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni will make tough decisions as Tuesday’s deadline looms. And while Cooper’s stellar summer would suggest he’s earned a spot, you never quite know. “It would be a blessing to make the team,” Cooper said Friday night at MetLife Stadium after the Eagles’ preseason finale against the Jets. “I would love to be here.”

Eagles vs. Jets Locker Room Interviews: August 22, 2025 – PE.com

Following the Eagles’ 19-17 victory over the New York Jets, hear from the following players: WR John Metchie III, RB Montrell Johnson Jr. (2:38), and QB Kyle McCord (4:38).

Final Score: Eagles 19, Jets 17 – Gang Green Nation

After the Jets shut the Eagles offense down, they took over on offense and Adrian Martinez led a long Jets drive highlighted by another nifty Jamal Pritchett catch and run. Donovan Edwards took the ball in for a one yard touchdown run and the Jets pulled to within two points at Eagles 19, Jets 17. A two point conversion attempt by Donovan Edwards fell just short and the Jets trailed by two points with just over three minutes to play. The Jets again shut down the Eagles offense and the Eagles punted from inside their own 20 yard line. A long Jamal Pritchett punt return and a short Pritchett reception got the Jets to the Eagles 44 yard line at the two minute warning. Another ten or so yards and the Jets would be in position to win the game. Alas, the Jets gained just two more yards. They turned the ball over on downs and the Eagles ran out the clock for a 19 – 17 victory over the Jets.

Washington Commanders are trading Brian Robinson to the 49ers – Hogs Haven

The Washington Commanders have reportedly traded RB Brian Robinson to the San Francisco 49ers for a sixth-round pick. Robinson was the team’s starter after he returned from being shot during a carjacking during training camp in his rookie season three years ago. Robinson has dealt with injuries every season, but continued to win the starting job until this year. Washington drafted Jacory “Bill” Croskey Merritt in the 7th round, and has Austin Ekeler, Chris Rodriguez Jr, and Jeremy McNichols coming back from last season. Reports came out before the Commanders Monday Night Football game against the Bengals that Robinson was being shopped for a trade. He didn’t attend the game in a mutually agreement with the team, and his fate was sealed. The only question was whether Washington would be able to find a trade partner for a late round pick swap, or if he would be released to save $3.4 million against this years salary cap. […] ‘Update: Washington is paying $1.25 million of Robinson’s $3.4 million salary to facilitate the trade

Dallas Cowboys injuries: Rookie RB Jaydon Blue leaves preseason game with right ankle injury – Blogging The Boys

The Dallas Cowboys saw Jaydon Blue play in a game for them for the first time on Friday night in the team’s preseason finale and he looked great while doing so. Unfortunately things got a bit scary in the fourth quarter as he needed tending to on the field at AT&T Stadium. Blue was ultimately able to walk off of the field under his own power, but it was reported on the broadcast shortly after that he would not be returning to the game and was dealing with a right ankle injury.

6 NFL quarterbacks under pressure to perform this season – SB Nation

Dak Prescott: Being the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys is the highest-pressure job, at the highest-pressure position in football. There’s a constant expectation of brilliance, and last year was just bad for Prescott. Even prior to being hurt he struggled by throwing eight interceptions in eight games, leading the team to a 3-5 record. Everything went wrong for the ‘Boys in 2024, and there’s not a massive deal of hope in 2025 — especially if Micah Parsons isn’t on the roster when the dust settles. That will weaken the defense so significantly that more pressure will be put on Prescott to take over games from the QB position, which isn’t the best recipe for success. There’s a sense of a full rebuild looming in Dallas, it’s just a question of when that happens. A bad season from Prescott might accelerate that reality.

Trevon Diggs on playing Week 1: Maybe, maybe not – PFT

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said on Friday that he believes defensive end Micah Parsons will be on the field against the Eagles in Week 1, but cornerback Trevon Diggs is less sure about his own outlook. Diggs remains on the physically unable to perform list because of his recovery from surgery on his left knee and would miss at least the first four games of the season if he remains on it through the cut to 53 players. Diggs said he feels “way better than I should feel” and indications have been that he’d be ready to go before Week 5, but Diggs was non-committal about the Eagles game. “Maybe, maybe not,” Diggs said, via Todd Archer of ESPN.com. Diggs is not able to practice while on the PUP list and the chance to test the knee in that setting is also a factor in any decision about his status.

New York Giants roster moves: Dyontae Johnson, Montrell Washington, Zach Pascal among first 8 cuts – Big Blue View

Pascal is a seven-year veteran with 196 career receptions. [BLG Note: Former Eagles WR could be a candidate to return to Philly on the practice squad.]
