The New York Giants made their first wave of cuts on Friday en route to reaching the 53-man roster limit, releasing eight players from their 90-man preseason roster.
Players cut were:
- WR Jordan Bly
- ILB K.J. Cloyd
- CB O’Donnell Fortune
- ILB Dyontae Johnson
- C Jimmy Morrissey
- WR Zach Pascal
- WR Montrell Washington
- OL Jaison Williams
That leaves the Giants with 83 players, including placekicker Jude McAtamney, who carries an International Exemption. They have 30 moves remaining.
Johnson, a former undrafted free agent from Toledo, was impressive during preseason in 2024. He suffered an ankle injury late in preseason, though, and spent most of the season on IR. He appeared in just two games.
Washington impressed early in the preseason and finished the three games with seven catches for 105 yards.
Pascal is a seven-year veteran with 196 career receptions.
Morrissey spent last season on the Giants’ practice squad.
Cloyd has now been cut by the Giants at the end of the preseason in consecutive seasons.
Bly, Fortune and Williams were all undrafted free agents. Fortune might have the best chance to be re-signed to the practice squad.
T.J. Moore injury update
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Friday that Moore will have surgery either later on Friday or on Saturday after being carted off the field with a leg injury late in Thursday’s game against the New England Patriots. Daboll did not confirm the exact nature of the injury, but it would seem likely that the rookie cornerback will end up on season-ending injured reserve.
